He noted that the military official believes U.S. troops. \u201cwill fight in 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope he\u2019s wrong . . .\u201d McCaul stated. \u201cI think he\u2019s right, though, unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The top GOP lawmaker said China could look at a military invasion of Taiwan if President Xi Jinping of the Chinese Communist Party fails to influence Taiwan\u2019s presidential election in 2024, which takes place a year from today, and further China\u2019s efforts on its so-called \u201creunification\u201d The island.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1949, Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China has been autonomously governed by China. China has a \u201cOne China\u201d Policy claiming Taiwan is part of China<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to be prepared for this,\u201d McCaul stated. \u201cAnd it could happen \u2026 as long as Biden is in office \u2014 projecting weakness as he did with Afghanistan that led to Putin invading Ukraine \u2014 that the odds are very high we could see a conflict with China and Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seth Jones, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, (CSIS), published a report last Wednesday that followed a CSIS wargame scenario. It pointed out that U.S. weapons, including long-range precision-guided ammunition, could be exhausted in less than a week in a conflict against China.<\/p>\n<p>Jones gave his opinion to The Wall Street Journal. He noted that the U.S. support of Ukraine in its war against Russia had reduced the U.S. arsenal of weapons. Accordingly, Pentagon officials revised their inventory of munitions in December. This highlighted the years-old trend of underinvestment in munitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is the defense industrial base, in my judgment, is not prepared for the security environment that now exists,\u201d Journal was informed by Jones that Jones said the defense industry is in its current phase. \u201cbetter suited to a peacetime environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow do you effectively deter if you don\u2019t have sufficient stockpiles of the kinds of munitions you\u2019re going to need for a China-Taiwan Strait kind of scenario?\u201d Jones stated.<\/p>\n<p>McCaul acknowledged that the CSIS scenario left him feeling uneasy \u201cvery\u201d worried.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur defense industrial base is broken,\u201d He said that he had signed off on foreign military weapon sales to Taiwan three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) countered his colleague\u2019s possible war with China narrative on \u201cFox News Sunday,\u201d The conflict is \u201chighly unlikely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith also suggested that generals be careful not to signal to the rest of the world. \u201cthe U.S. is going to war with China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnything is possible,\u201d Smith stated. \u201cI\u2019m really worried when anyone starts talking about war with China being inevitable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCaul agreed with Smith that the U.S. military supplies stockpile makes it vulnerable to a potential conflict with China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a huge problem,\u201d Smith stated. \u201cWe don\u2019t have the industrial base, and we don\u2019t have the ability to ramp up that industrial base.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to officials from the U.S. Department of Defense <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/national-security\/us-air-force-general-predicts-war-china-2025-memo-rcna67967?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma\">NBC<\/a>This memo was published by Air Force General first. \u201care not representative of the department\u2019s view on China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lloyd Austin, Secretary for Defense, disregarded speculations of a Chinese invasion in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing recently, is some very provocative behavior on the part of China\u2019s forces and their attempt to re-establish a new normal,\u201d Austin stated. \u201cBut whether or not that means that an invasion is imminent \u2014 I seriously doubt that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">Virginia Kruta, Hank Berrien and others contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (R-TX) said Sunday the odds of a conflict with China by 2025 \u201care very high\u201d after a four-star Air Force General warned officers that he sees a war on the horizon over Taiwan.
