Last night, law enforcement released video footage of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The Memphis Police Department said Saturday night that it was ending the\u00a0SCORPION Unit (Street Crimes Operations to Restore Peace in Our Neighborhoods) after officials met with Chief Cerelyn \u2018C J.\u2019 Davis will discuss recent events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the process of listening intently to the family of Tyre Nichols, community leaders, and the uninvolved officers who have done quality work in their assignments, it is in the best interest of all to permanently deactivate the SCORPION Unit,\u201d The statement <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MEM_PoliceDept\/status\/1619446919683796992\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a>. \u201cThe officers currently assigned to the unit agree unreservedly with this next step. While the heinous actions of a few casts a cloud of dishonor on the title SCORPION, it is imperative that we, the Memphis Police Department take proactive steps in the healing process for all impacted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Memphis Police Department remains committed to serving our community and taking every measure possible to rebuild the trust that has been negatively affected by the death of Mr. Tyre Nichols,\u201d Additional police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Officers Tadarrius Bean and Demetrius Haley, Emmit Mart III, Desmond Mills Jr., Justin Smith were all present <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/5-former-memphis-police-officers-charged-in-mans-death-city-braces-for-possible-riots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charged<\/a> Local media reported that there were two counts for official misconduct. One count of official oppression was second-degree murder.
