No. In fact, there\u2019s an even more popular channel than The First that DirectTV has elected not to carry: Newsmax.<\/p>\n<p>DirectTV just fired Newsmax, fourth-ranked cable news network. Despite its popularity and success, it was a popular choice. OAN, another Right-leaning network was also kicked out of DirecTV last Spring.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to cut ties with Newsmax, according to the company\u2019s founder &#038; CEO Chris Ruddy, is a \u201cblatant act of political discrimination and censorship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ruddy is correct indeed.<\/p>\n<p>AT&#038;T\u2019s decision to nix both OAN and Newsmax came after Representatives Jerry McNerney (D-CA) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) <a href=\"https:\/\/eshoo.house.gov\/sites\/eshoo.house.gov\/files\/Eshoo-McNerney-TV-Misinfo%20Letters-2.22.21.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> The company will be requesting information regarding what in 2021 \u201caction\u201d it was taking to counter the usual allegations of misinformation and disinformation on conservative channels \u2014 Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN.<\/p>\n<p>Both claimed that this trio of channels was what they used to communicate with each other. \u201chotbeds that produce content that leads to real harm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McNerney, Eshoo and others cited a variety of Left-wing outlets that promote Democratic propaganda all day.<\/p>\n<p>Absent in the two\u2019s concerns was anything about the Russia collusion hoax narrative, global warming falsehoods, myths about police violence, or any other leftist narrative that is based on lies. Even more alarming was the fact that no other cable channel seemed to be concerned about the government&#8217;s incessant pressure on a private media company to silence it.<\/p>\n<p>Eshoo insists that she did not commit any direct violations to the First Amendment, claiming that the letter was justified \u201casking questions\u201d It is not necessary to ask for the network&#8217;s removal.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there\u2019s the old saying: <em>Never write if speaking is possible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Maybe AT&#038;T was given a silent signal to go along with the leftist line.<\/p>\n<p>Per Newsmax, the idea that it was a financial decision doesn\u2019t make any sense.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirecTV pays cable license fees to all top 75 cable channels and to all 22 liberal news and information channels it carries,\u201d Newsmax <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsfront\/newsmax-at-t-directv\/2023\/01\/24\/id\/1105756\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> In an editorial \u201cAlmost all of these channels are paid hefty license fees significantly more than Newsmax was seeking \u2014 and despite the fact that most of the channels have much lower ratings than Newsmax.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republicans on Capitol Hill have promised to investigate the matter. Newsmax spoke with James Comer (Republican from Kentucky), who is the chair of House Oversight and Reform Committee. \u201cvery concerned\u201d by it and will use all his power to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had several people from AT&#038;T reach out to me,\u201d He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/james-comer-directv-newsmax\/2023\/01\/27\/id\/1106175\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re going to have a meeting with them and, hopefully, we can get this resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To send a loud and clear message, politicians like Senator Rand Paul (R.KY), former president Donald J. Trump, as well as others, are encouraging millions to abandon AT&#038;T.<\/p>\n<p>AT&#038;T\u2019s decision comes amidst the backdrop of various corporations pushing the woke agenda. There is ample evidence that Big Tech has conspired with the FBI and other actors in order to silence Right-leaning media outlets and speech that opposes the government-media complex agenda. Conservatives seem to be outnumbered in all sectors of society, it seems.<\/p>\n<p>Newsmax reels in \u201c25 million Americans on cable alone\u201d According to the company. All of them are being sent to Fox News and the new First TV. But, for those who think it\u2019s no big deal that liberal networks outnumber conservative channels 22:2 on AT&#038;T, they should remember that the censorship might not end there.<\/p>\n<p>As Congressman Eli Crane (R-AZ) explained, \u201cFirst @OANN, now @NEWSMAX\u2026 This is an unacceptable attack on free speech, and every American should be outraged.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">First <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OANN?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@OANN<\/a>Now! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NEWSMAX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@NEWSMAX<\/a>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>This is a serious attack on freedom of speech and should be condemned by every American. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6tAgzBNl8n\">https:\/\/t.co\/6tAgzBNl8n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Eli Crane for Congress (@EliCraneAZ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EliCraneAZ\/status\/1618358248817709056?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 25, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Given DirecTV\u2019s alleged political bias, it seems that conservative media is being blocked out on cable, thus allowing legacy media and the liberal TV industry to control the narrative even tighter. That stranglehold isn\u2019t enough for anti-free speech actors.
