Twitter Executives \u201creverse-engineered\u201d This list of accounts was made in response to concerns that Russian-speaking users could influence American politics. Only 36 of 644 accounts were registered in Russia. Many of the rest were American accounts.<\/p>\n<p>In company email, executives wrote that accounts were not being maintained. \u201c\u200b\u200bneither strongly Russian nor strongly bots\u201d And concluded that there was \u201cno evidence to support the statement that the dashboard is a finger on the pulse of Russian information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yoel Roth, the social media company\u2019s former Trust and Safety lead, characterized the project as \u201cbulls***\u201d One of the messages. He pointed out that the site had been accessed by many. \u201cfalsely accuses a bunch of legitimate right-leaning accounts of being Russian bots\u201d Earns and \u201ctraction around partisan trends\u201d It is possible to claim that \u201cany right-leaning content is propagated by Russian bots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clint Watts, an ex-FBI agent, initiated the project. He received support from the Alliance for Securing Democracy as well as the German Marshall Fund. Bipartisan think tank the Alliance for Securing Democracy has a panel of advocates that includes Michael Morell, ex-CIA Director, former American Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul and Bill Kristol, Bulwark editor-at\u00adlarge.<\/p>\n<p>Similar accusations of collusion against Russia were made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/in-other-words-it-was-made-up-jim-jordan-rips-trump-russia-conspiracy-after-latest-durham-filing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">followed<\/a> Ex-President Donald Trump in his entire administration. Robert Mueller, a special attorney appointed by Justice Department, investigated allegations that Trump campaign had illegally coordinated with Russian agents to influence 2016, concluding there was no such evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi found out that media outlets such NBC and CBS, ABC, PBS. CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Mother Jones cited alleged data about Russian disinformation from Hamilton 68. \u201chundreds if not thousands\u201d Many occasions. He pointed out that outlets used the dashboard to discredit political figures such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2020-election\/russian-web-trolls-boo-biden-often-boost-gabbard-report-finds-n1085216?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tulsi Gabbard<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/observer.com\/2018\/09\/russian-propagandists-brett-kavanaugh-controversy-division-online\/?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brett Kavanaugh<\/a>By linking them to purported disinformation operations.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton 68 was also mentioned by academics at Harvard University, Princeton University, and other postsecondary institutions such as Senator Dianne Feinstein (D\u2013CA), Senator James Lankford(R-OK), or Rep. Adam Schiff.<\/p>\n<p>Taibbi surprised social media users when he revealed that they were purveyors for Russian disinformation. Hamilton 68 List also implicated Dennis Michael Lynch and David Horowitz, a conservative writer. \u201ca range of political dissidents, including leftists, anarchists, and humorists,\u201d According to Taibbi.<\/p>\n<p>Many were ordinary Americans unaware of their existence. \u201cI am a 73-year-old snowbird in Florida,\u201d One individual spoke. \u201cSupposedly in a free world, we are being watched at many levels, by what we say online,\u201d Another individual told Taibbi that she had been subject to political persecution in Lebanon and then moved to the West.<\/p>\n<p>The Twitter Files is an initiative of independent journalists that was based on internal documents from Twitter CEO Elon Musk. Previous editions have shown federal law enforcement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-new-twitter-files-shows-how-federal-state-governments-monitor-americans-social-media-posts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">policed content<\/a> in the platform and asked executives for removal of certain posts.
