She should be. <\/p>\n<p>Comprehensive overhaul of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/10\/forget-playing-outside-big-pharmas-solution-to-childhood-obesity-is-more-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recommendations<\/a> The treatment of obesity in children includes the use of a combination bariatric surgery and pharmaceuticals. This operation should not be used in the worst cases. <\/p>\n<p>Virginia Sole Smith is the author of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fat-Talk-Parenting-Diet-Culture-ebook\/dp\/B0B1Y5TKLP#:~:text=Fat%20Talk%20is%20about%20parenting,on%20new%20and%20better%20terms.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fat Talk: Parenting in the Age of Diet Culture<\/a>,\u201d The April issue is terrifying for many reasons. According to Sole-Smith, the medical community\u2019s remaining stigmas against excessive weight are problematic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guidelines are rooted in a premise that should have been rejected long ago: that weight loss is the best path to health and happiness,\u201d Sole-Smith wrote. \u201cThe academy\u2019s guidelines are the latest sally in the war on obesity that health care providers, public health officials and the general public have waged to shrink our bodies for over 40 years. The approach hasn\u2019t worked; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/obesity\/data\/adult.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Americans<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/mm7037a3.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">including kids<\/a>, are not getting thinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s right that the kids are not all right. But she\u2019s dangerously wrong to claim Americans should raise the white flag on the issue. On the contrary, Americans should be alarmed that the population\u2019s obesity epidemic has swollen to such epic proportions that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/obesity\/data\/childhood.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1 in 5 <\/a>Children are clinically obese.
