Somebody who had part-ownership of the rights to the sample hit me up like, \u2018We f*** with you, you should try it out.\u2019 My boy Nick, who does a lot of sample replays and recreating original samples, we basically remade the whole song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHad a different singer and instruments, but it was all really close because it makes it easier legally,\u201d Continued Gravy \u201cWe said, \u2018Let\u2019s try to clear it and see what happens.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group \u201cconspired to include a deliberate and nearly indistinguishable imitation of Mr. Astley\u2019s voice throughout the song,\u201d Astley\u2019s attorneys claim.<\/p>\n<p>Gravy reportedly did license the instrumental music from Astley\u2019s song.<\/p>\n<p>Gravy was asked if he was a Astley fan or a lover of the song in a Billboard interview. \u201cThe song became a meme. I\u2019m sure that\u2019s probably how I first heard it in middle school, in meme fashion, but I actually really like the song. I listen to it and I think it bangs. I\u2019m sure a lot of people do even if they don\u2019t admit it,\u201d Gravy replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRickrolling\u201d refers to trolling someone on the internet by a bait-and-switch that links to the music video for Astley\u2019s song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy publishing company was like, \u2018Yo, there\u2019s a chance that you could clear it,\u201d Gravy stated. When Gravy was asked if Astley had been to his house, he answered &#8220;Yes.&#8221; \u201cI tried to reach out and all I know is they came back saying he\u2019s on tour right now. They said he digs the song and you\u2019ll hear more later.
