California has a 10-day waiting limit on handgun purchases. A microstamping system is also available. Californians can also take a safety test. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/california-gun-measures-let-citizens-sue-to-enforce-regulations-11657640654\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to sue<\/a> gun manufacturers even if they haven\u2019t broken any law, an age hike on the purchase of certain firearms including rifles from 18 to 21, \u201cred flag\u201d Police can confiscate guns without due process. There are also laws banning magazines that contain more than 10 rounds and legislation that was resisted by courts to seize those magazines. California has a law that allows cops to smash down guns owners&#8217; doors and take their weapons. When the ban expired in 2004, and the AR-15 became the most popular rifle in the country, gun violence continued to precipitously fall \u2014 by 2014, gun homicides <a href=\"https:\/\/mises.org\/wire\/fbi-us-homicide-rate-51-year-low\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">were the same<\/a> as they were in 1963 \u2014 until the appearance of Covid. <\/p>\n<p>Now, America\u2019s gun death rates have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/gun-death-rate-nears-three-decade-high-with-men-at-most-risk-11669749562\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reached<\/a> As of 2021, it was at its highest point in 28 years \u201cafter sharp increases in homicides of Black men and suicides among white men, an analysis of federal data showed,\u201d According to The Wall Street Journal. There are likely numerous societal reasons for this change \u2014 since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/249740\/percentage-of-households-in-the-united-states-owning-a-firearm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about 45 percent<\/a> of American households had guns 10 years ago and the number is the same today \u2014 but Democrats are busy worrying about stopping gun owners from having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=U32GOlL5Ro4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">barrel shrouds<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Not that it matters to Democrats, but the shooter at Monterey Park didn\u2019t use an assault weapon.
