Ingrid Gant, former president of Arlington Education Association \/ YouTube    <\/p>\n<p>On Monday, a former president of the Virginia Teachers&#8217; Union was arrested for stealing more than $400,000 from her union.<\/p>\n<p>Ingrid Gant, the Arlington Education Association&#8217;s leader for six years was indicted on four counts each of embezzlement after a six month investigation. The Fairfax County Police Department announced this in a <a href=\"https:\/\/fcpdnews.wordpress.com\/2023\/01\/24\/woman-arrested-for-embezzlement-from-arlington-education-association\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. Gant was found to have received bonuses and made improper charges for debit cards belonging to her company by an independent auditor who worked alongside police.<\/p>\n<p>Gant is the second head of a teachers&#8217; union to be accused of abuses of funds. In an eerily similar case, Gant, a former treasurer of Reading&#8217;s teachers&#8217; union, was indicted for embezzling more that $400,000 between 2016 and 2017. <em>Reading Eagle<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingeagle.com\/2023\/01\/06\/reading-teachers-union-treasurer-accused-embezzling-400000\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. When confronted about the inappropriate expenditures, the treasurer resigned.<\/p>\n<p>June Prakash (the president of Arlington Education Association) declined to comment. Her organization claims it &#8220;is pursuing all legal channels to recoup any lost funds and hold those responsible accountable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gant was released by an unsecured bond on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p>Gant was fired by Arlington Education Association&#8217;s board in March 2022, after refusing to submit financial reports or file tax returns. Calibre CPA Group initiated an audit of teachers&#8217; union in September 2022. Later, it was revealed that Gant, 54 years old, had embezzled $410782.10 since 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Gant sent a request to the Arlington Public Schools superintendent, requesting that she delay her return in January 2022. She requested additional COVID-mitigation steps, claiming that teachers would face. &#8220;super-spreader&#8221; Omicron variant has had an impact on school events <em>New York Post <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/30\/error-riddled-virginia-teachers-union-letter-gets-roasted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It contained spelling errors as well as basic grammar mistakes. It <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ellenfgallery\/status\/1476595737408507908\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went viral<\/a> After a parent shared a copy she had edited on Twitter, it was shared by another parent.<\/p>\n<p>Arlington Education Association (Veteran Education Association) is a local chapter. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfxrtv.com\/news\/health\/coronavirus\/virginia-education-association-president-speaks-to-wfxr-news-says-majority-of-members-do-not-believe-schools-are-ready-to-reopen-safely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed to keep schools closed<\/a>. The Virginia Education Association is also an affiliate of the National Education Association (NEA)\u2014the nation&#8217;s largest labor union.
