The Justice Department stated that the agents discovered classified materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not have different rules for Democrats or Republicans, different rules for the powerful or the powerless, different rules for the rich and for the poor, we apply the facts, and the law in each case in a neutral, non-partisan manner,\u201d Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lz3cxoWPpRg\">told<\/a> Reporters during Monday&#8217;s roundtable. \u201cThat is what we always do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if he has any regrets regarding how the agency handled the two cases, Garland said that the DOJ should\u00a0make decisions \u201cin a nonpartisan and neutral way without regard to who the subjects are.\u201d He said,\u00a0\u201cThat is what we\u2019ve done in each of these cases. And that is what we\u2019ll continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Late last week, FBI agents discovered more classified documents at Biden\u2019s home in Wilmington, Delaware, according to a DOJ prosecutor and the president\u2019s personal lawyer. That\u00a0discovery was the fourth time since November that classified documents were found in Biden\u2019s possession, although his lawyers did not reveal their existence until earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph D. Fitzpatrick was the assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. He spoke to news outlets this weekend: \u201cI can confirm that the FBI on Friday executed a planned, consensual search of the President\u2019s residence in Wilmington, Delaware.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the documents and other materials were dated from Biden\u2019s time when he was a senator representing Delaware from 1973 until 2009, said his lawyer, Bob Bauer, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/justice-department-found-more-classified-documents-search-biden-home-lawyer-says-2023-01-22\/\">statement<\/a> To news outlets. (Susan Walsh\/AP Photo)<\/figure>\n<p>Bauer stated that he consented to FBI agents searching his house \u201cthe entire premises for potential vice-presidential records and potential classified material.\u201d Biden and his wife, Jill, weren\u2019t there, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDOJ took possession of materials it deemed within the scope of its inquiry, including six items consisting of documents with classification markings and surrounding materials, some of which were from the President\u2019s service in the Senate and some of which were from his tenure as Vice President,\u201d Bauer said, adding federal agents \u201calso took for further review personally handwritten notes from the vice-presidential years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A number of congress Democrats are now more concerned with the White House handling of this case. They also want an independent investigation. The House has been sending daily letters to various federal agencies seeking information and records.<\/p>\n<p>James Comer, the new House Oversight Chairman (R-Ky.), sent (<a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/2023-01-23-Letter-Secret-Service-visitor-logs.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) a letter on Monday asking Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for all internal documents, communications, and other materials relating to Biden\u2019s Delaware home.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), speaking on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press,\u201d The outlet was informed by the president \u201cshould have a lot of regrets\u201d How he dealt with classified documents.\u00a0\u201cWhoever\u2019s responsible \u2014 I mean, if I hold people accountable\u2014whether it be my chief of staff or, you know, my staff that were doing this and I\u2019m looking at \u2014 then I\u2019m going to hold someone accountable, but basically, the buck stops with me,\u201d Manchin stated.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, however, stated late last week that he believes he did not do anything wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re gonna find there\u2019s nothing there,\u201d Biden made these remarks while assessing flood damage in California. \u201cI have no regrets. I\u2019m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. It\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re doing. There\u2019s no there there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will answer the question but here\u2019s the deal. You know, what quite frankly bugs me is that we have a serious problem here we\u2019re talking about, we\u2019re talking about what\u2019s going on.
