Baldy.\u201d Many incidents have been reported in this area, which is often considered dangerous during winter. Wildlife can also be a problem. Dangerous animals, whether hungry or simply territorial, are normally on the prowl \u2014 some even at this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>CNN: \u201crescue missions have been for lost, stranded, and\/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves. Baldy is in the San Gabriel Mountains in San Bernardino County and the local Sheriff\u2019s Department, which is in the news a lot, has warned hikers about visiting the location due to high winds and icy conditions. In Sands\u2019 case, they tried to find him by pinging his cell phone but with no luck. CNN says they\u2019re \u201cuncertain if they will\u2026find Sands alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no ground search at this time, the conditions are just too dangerous for us to insert any of our search and rescue personnel into the mountain,\u201d said Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the Sheriff\u2019s Office. \u201cNothing is off the table. But obviously the conditions there are very extreme.
