In fact, \u201cwe don\u2019t know the exact number because even the government can\u2019t keep track of it all,\u201d NPR heard Hathaway last week. <\/p>\n<p>The primary weapon to defeat political opponents is the law governing classified documents in private ownership. <\/p>\n<p>More documents marked classified have now been found in former Vice President Mike Pence\u2019s Indiana residence, his team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/vice-president-mike-pence-discovered-classified-documents-indiana-home\">announced <\/a>To Congress on Tuesday. The revelation marks the latest episode in classified documents popping up in the apparently improper possession of individuals who\u2019ve conducted state business at the highest levels of government. <\/p>\n<p>Last week, a 13-hour FBI search of President Joe Biden\u2019s Delaware residence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/01\/21\/search-of-bidens-home-by-doj-finds-6-more-classified-documents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">turned up <\/a>Another treasure trove of documents containing classified markings dates back to his time in public office, before he was granted full classification powers as commander\u2013in-chief. The search by federal agents came after the president\u2019s attorneys found secret records in several locations, including a Washington office closet and his Delaware garage.<\/p>\n<p>It was Trump, the former president, who was in hot water after he was accused of threatening to resign when he wore plainclothes FBI officers. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/09\/fbi-even-searched-melanias-wardrobe-in-trump-raid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">raided <\/a>Mar-a-Lago, 128-room palace in search of classified documents. Operating under a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/12\/breaking-fbi-raid-warrant-demanded-seizure-of-literally-any-record-trump-ever-saw-during-4-year-presidential-term\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">broad warrant<\/a> Merrick Garland issued an order allowing officials to confiscate any records Trump may have been in contact with. The agents then took 15 boxes of material from Trump&#8217;s Florida residence. They are classified. However, the steady stream of documents appearing from three potential presidential contenders shows how laws governing classified files can be used for getting rid of almost any federal elected officials. Given that a criminal conviction of Trump has remained the top item on the Democrats\u2019 policy agenda since 2016, it\u2019s a conspiracy to think the enforcement of the rarely prosecuted Presidential Records Act is <em>Not <\/em>being pursued for the sole purpose of thwarting his 2024 campaign \u2014 that is until the dam of others\u2019 classified documents broke.<\/p>\n<p>The real scandal isn\u2019t that the current president, his predecessor, and the last vice president were improperly harboring classified documents beyond their government tenure. The real scandal is Washington\u2019s chronic overclassification problem, which leads to the laws governing classified records becoming weaponized to take out political opponents.
