It has been also banned by the U.S. military on military devices.<\/p>\n<p>Maine Information Technology notified executive branch workers on Thursday that TikTok poses a serious threat to the state\u2019s network infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Maine IT believes the directive is (<a href=\"https:\/\/htv-prod-media.s3.amazonaws.com\/files\/cybersecurity-directive-23-01-tiktok-002-v2-002-1674166182.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) is in response to \u201cwell-documented national security risks posed by TikTok\u201d  \u201crecently enacted federal legislation that prohibits the use of the application on all federal government devices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The directive requires TikTok to be removed from all state-owned and personal devices that connect to the government\u2019s network by Feb. 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf previously installed, any covered technology must be immediately uninstalled to circumvent any exposure of sensitive information,\u201d This directive is clear.\u00a0\u201cFailure to meet the requirements of this directive may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new requirement does not affect personal devices that don\u2019t connect to the state government\u2019s network.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fbi-director-warns-china-could-use-tiktok-for-influence-operations-surveillance-on-americans_4901577.html\">The FBI<\/a>  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tiktok-poses-threat-to-every-american-user-fcc-commissioner-brendan-carr_4590432.html\">Federal Communications Commission<\/a>\u00a0have issued warnings of possible threats TikTok poses to U.S. national security, including that user data obtained by the app\u2014such as browsing history and location\u2014could be shared with the authoritarian Chinese regime.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns were heightened in late 2022 amid media reports that staff of ByteDance\u00a0used the company\u2019s access to TikTok user data to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/bytedance-used-tiktok-to-spy-on-us-journalists-report_4941319.html\">improperly track American journalists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While TikTok has previously\u00a0said\u00a0that all U.S. user data was stored within the United States, it has\u00a0since admitted that this is not true. In a September 2022 congressional hearing, TikTok executives\u00a0refused\u00a0to commit to stopping the flow of American data to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).<\/p>\n<div class=\"morearticles\"><strong>Continue reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"post_list\">\n<div class=\"article\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-government-seeks-to-outlaw-tiktok-but-faces-obstacles_4991320.html\">US Government Seeks to Outlaw TikTok but Faces Obstacles<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The States that have banned TikTok<\/h2>\n<p>TikTok rose in popularity in the United States in 2017 after ByteDance acquired\u00a0Chinese-owned social media company Musical.ly and paired its Santa Monica office with TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok did not inform U.S. officials about the Musical.ly\u2013TikTok merger despite both companies\u2019 ties to China, independent investigative journalist Geoffrey Cain\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tiktok-is-everything-that-you-do-not-want-in-a-modern-democracy-tech-expert_4766818.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-summari-detected=\"true\" data-summari-has-summary=\"false\">previously told<\/a>\u00a0EpochTV\u2019s \u201cAmerican Thought Leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Casey Fleming was previously interviewed by BlackOps Partners CEO and cybersecurity expert, BlackOps Partners.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/tiktok-users-are-feeding-data-to-ccp-intelligence-agencies-cyber-experts-warn_4275403.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-summari-detected=\"true\" data-summari-has-summary=\"false\">The Epoch Times,<\/a>\u00a0\u201cAll of your data on that phone, everything you do, and everything that you have stored on your phone is being sent out of the country, possibly to be used against you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Brendan Carr <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrendanCarrFCC\/status\/1541899558006837248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">wrote on Twitter<\/a> In June 2022 \u201cTikTok doesn\u2019t just see its users\u2019 dance videos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides national security concerns, many have raised concerns about TikTok\u2019s content and its potential harms to the mental health of adolescents.
