Ted Cruz (R.TX) and Rep. Ralph Norman(R.SC) introduced a constitutional amend to impose term limits for members of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/term_limits_constitutional_amendment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amendment<\/a> would limit U.S. senators to two terms of six years each and representatives to three terms of two years each from the time of the amendment\u2019s enactment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerm limits are critical to fixing what\u2019s wrong with Washington, D.C. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government of citizen legislators who would serve for a few years and return home, not a government run by a small group of special interests and lifelong, permanently entrenched politicians who prey upon the brokenness of Washington to govern in a manner that is totally unaccountable to the American people,\u201d Cruz made the statement in a statement that was sent to The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTerms limits bring about accountability that is long overdue and I urge my colleagues to advance this amendment along to the states so that it may be quickly ratified and become a constitutional amendment,\u201d The statement was added.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz has introduced constitutional amendments in 2017, 2019 and 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Norman spoke out Monday about the importance of the amendment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElected office should represent a short-term privilege of public service, not a career choice,\u201d He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/sen-cruz-introduces-constitutional-amendment-to-impose-term-limits-for-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cThose of us in Congress ought to serve for a reasonable period of time and then return home to live under the laws we enacted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>11 Republican senators co-sponsored the constitutional amend, which includes Sens. J.D. Vance (R.OH), Bill Hagerty(R.TN), Cynthia Lummis, R-WY), Roger Marshall(R\u2013KS), Mike Lee\/R-UT), Steve Daines\/R-MT), Todd Young\/R.IN), Mike Braun\/R.IN), Rick Scott\/R.FL), Josh Hawley\/MO, and Tommy Tuberville.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Tomboulides, executive Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.termlimits.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Term Limits<\/a>In a press release, he thanked Cruz for his leadership in this issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupermajorities of Republicans and Democrats favor term limits because they know Congress will never be fixed without it. We applaud Sen. Cruz for continuing to lead on this issue,\u201d He stated.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible for the Houses of Congress, a two-thirds majority is required. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/about-the-white-house\/our-government\/the-constitution\/#:~:text=An%20amendment%20may%20be%20proposed,in%20each%20State%20for%20ratification.\">propose<\/a> An amendment to the constitution. The amendment must be ratified then by three-fourths state legislatures.<\/p>\n<p>This amendment is being proposed at a time when leaders from both parties have been serving nearly 50 years in the Senate. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-IA, has been a member of the House and Senate together for 48 years. He spent 42 years in the Senate. Senator Ed Markey, D-MA, has served in Congress since 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell (R.KY) is just behind Grassley when it comes to current senators who have served the longest time in office. He has been serving since 1985 for 38 consecutive years. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/frost.house.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maxwell Alejandro Frost<\/a>26-year-old, who was born 1997.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.termlimits.com\/why-term-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a> From 1964 to 2018, Congress saw a 90% rate of re-election. The group claims that term limits would open up more seats, reverse the trend and give Americans more options.<\/p>\n<p>According to the organization the president already has term limits due to the 22nd Amendment. 36 governors have term limits as well as 15 state legislatures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
