This scenario pointed out that U.S. weapons, including long-range, precision guided munitions could go completely empty in one week of conflict with China.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bottom line is the defense industrial base, in my judgment, is not prepared for the security environment that now exists,\u201d Jones said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/u-s-weapons-industry-unprepared-for-a-china-conflict-report-says-11674479916?mod=hp_trending_now_article_pos5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>The defense industry is currently \u201cbetter suited to a peacetime environment. \u2026 How do you effectively deter if you don\u2019t have sufficient stockpiles of the kinds of munitions you\u2019re going to need for a China-Taiwan Strait kind of scenario?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese shortfalls would make it extremely difficult for the United States to sustain a protracted conflict,\u201d Jones\u2019 report asserted. \u201cThey also highlight that the U.S. defense industrial base lacks adequate surge capacity for a major war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe history of industrial mobilization suggests that it will take years for the defense industrial base to produce and deliver sufficient quantities of critical weapons systems and munitions and recapitalize stocks that have been used up,\u201d The study was expanded.<\/p>\n<p>Adm. Daryl Caudle is the head of U.S. Fleet Forces Command. He has voiced his dissatisfaction with the defense industry and its snapping. \u201cI am not forgiving of the fact they\u2019re not delivering the ordnance we need. \u2026 All this stuff about Covid this, parts, supply chain \u2014 I just don\u2019t really care. We\u2019ve all got tough jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-type=\"paragraph\">The U.S.&#8217;s support of Ukraine in its war against Russia has led to the Pentagon reassessing its munitions stockpile in December. This demonstrates the years-long underinvestment in munitions. The Journal suggests investing in new weapons systems rather than ammunition or shells. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/pentagon-reviews-munitions-needs-as-ukraine-drains-stocks-11670591163?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bill LaPlante (undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment) was acknowledged. \u201cYou have to have almost a political environment like we have now, where people see the urgency for it. Because in times of peace and times of prosperity, it\u2019s one of the first things that falls off the budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As recently as late December, 71 Chinese warplanes were detected flying around Taiwan, performing military exercises, according to Taiwan\u2019s Defense Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>According to the People\u2019s Liberation Army, China was conducting a \u201cstrike drill\u201d In response to \u201cprovocations\u201d  \u201ccollusion\u201d The United States and Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c71 PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected in our surrounding region by 6 a.m.(UTC+8) today,\u201d Taiwan Defense Ministry tweets \u201cR.O.C.
