The latest leak revealed that some documents date back to Biden&#8217;s time in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The scandal was initially dismissed by Democrats (\u201cHe did the right thing,\u201d Rep. Pete Aguilar (California) is the Chairman of House Democratic Caucus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/dems-defend-biden-classified-documents-handling-call-outrage-republican-hypocrisy\">said<\/a>). But that\u2019s starting to change, especially after the feds spent nine hours scouring Biden\u2019s Delaware home, finding even more documents.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Dick Durbin (D.IL), second-ranking Democrat, stated over the weekend that Biden should not be \u201cembarrassed by the situation.\u201d Durbin said that the president does not hold the moral high ground in regard to an issue that embroiled former President Donald Trump. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed special counsels for both cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, of course, let\u2019s be honest about it. When that information is found, it diminishes the stature of any person who is in possession of it because it\u2019s not supposed to happen \u2026 The elected official bears ultimate responsibility,\u201d Durbin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/22\/politics\/dick-durbin-biden-classified-documents-cnntv\/index.html\">said<\/a> CNN.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has been a thorn in Biden\u2019s side, said the president \u201cshould have a lot of regrets. \u2026 You just might as well say, \u2018Listen, it\u2019s irresponsible.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The move away from Biden came after he defended his actions \u2014 after 68 days of silence and even before the latest batch of documents were discovered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found a handful of documents were filed in the wrong place. We immediately turned them over to the Archives and the Justice Department. We\u2019re fully cooperating, looking forward to getting this resolved quickly,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re gonna\u2019 find there\u2019s nothing there. I have no regrets. I\u2019m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. That\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re doing. There\u2019s no there there,\u201d Biden said.<\/p>\n<p>But Democrats are still equivocating, saying Trump\u2019s situation is worse than Biden\u2019s. \u201cIt is outrageous that either occurred,\u201d Durbin spoke. \u201cBut the reaction by the former president and the current president could not be in sharper contrast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin did the exact same thing. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/meet-the-press\/video\/biden-should-have-a-lot-of-regrets-on-mishandling-classified-materials-manchin-says\/NBCN144389694\">saying<\/a> on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s just hard to believe that in the United States of America, we have a former president and a current president that are basically in the same situation. How does this happen?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberal news sites, such as the Associated Press, have tried to make distinctions between the presidents through the wire service. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-politics-united-states-government-merrick-garland-9c875e913618a68ac73d9e41505ab769\">writing<\/a> Monday \u201cBiden voluntarily allowed the FBI into his home on Friday.\u201d They often forget Trump was denied this option. In fact, federal agents came to Mar-a-Lago at night with a warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s investigation is certain to be a priority, especially after Republicans took control of the House during the mid-term elections. Durbin and others are worried that Biden&#8217;s scandal will lead to him being severely handicapped.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to worry, since this new group that has taken over control of the House of Representatives has promised us endless investigations, confrontations, impeachments and chaos, what is going to happen,\u201d Durbin spoke.<\/p>\n<p>One Republican believes that the Biden scandal is an intentional plot to weaken the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, there\u2019s an element of this where it\u2019s Joe Biden\u2019s lawyer who turns this information over, it\u2019s Joe Biden\u2019s own Justice Department that\u2019s appointed a special counsel to investigate him,\u201d Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/matt-gaetz-classified-docs-scandal-feels-like-democrats-taking-out-joe-biden\">told<\/a> Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an element to this that feels like the Democrats are taking out Joe Biden,\u201d Gaetz said. \u201cI don\u2019t know that that\u2019s the case, but I don\u2019t know that it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the Democrats have realized that Joe Biden is not useful to them anymore, and they just assume toss him out and get a younger crop of candidates engaged in the next presidential race,\u201d He stated.\u00a0\u201cBut just as Joe Biden is hardening the cement around his decision to run for president again, they start looking for what classified documents might have been tucked away eight years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The views expressed in this piece are the author\u2019s own and do not necessarily represent those of The Daily Wire.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Joseph Curl is a 35-year veteran of politics, having served 12 years as White House correspondent in a national newspaper.
