This will be the latest of a series of antitrust lawsuits brought against the company by state and federal government agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Google has not yet made a statement regarding the DOJ&#8217;s reported legal maneuver. However, the company has denied any monopolistic business practices. In past testimony and court filings, Google has identified companies like Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and others as strong competitors within the digital advertising space.<\/p>\n<p>Google, owned by Alphabet Inc., holds the largest share of business in the United States\u2019 $278.6 billion digital-ad market, as well as the top slot in the $626.86 billion global digital ad market.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ\u2019s reported lawsuit will follow previous legal action taken against the tech giant in 2020 \u2014 when the department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-sues-monopolist-google-violating-antitrust-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sued<\/a> Google over the company\u2019s search practices.<\/p>\n<p>William Barr, then-Attorney General, stated at the time that Google was the \u201cgatekeeper of the Internet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis lawsuit strikes at the heart of Google\u2019s grip over the internet for millions of American consumers, advertisers, small businesses and entrepreneurs beholden to an unlawful monopolist,\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>Google launched in November <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/11\/14\/google-settles-with-40-states-over-location-tracking-practices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settled<\/a> a legal challenge brought by dozens of states over the company\u2019s use of location tracking. Google agreed to a $391.5 million settlement with the attorneys general of 40 states that said the company continued to monitor the people\u2019s movements even after turning off their phones\u2019 location tracking feature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsistent with improvements we\u2019ve made in recent years, we have settled this investigation which was based on outdated product policies that we changed years ago,\u201d Google spokesman Jos\u00e9 Casta\u00f1eda said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Google is currently facing claims of political bias against Republicans, in addition to the antitrust court challenges. The Republican National Committee, (RNC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/fec-says-googles-email-filter-did-not-intentionally-target-gop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed<\/a> FEC filed an April complaint against Google alleging that it suppressed GOP campaign emails using its spam filter in Gmail.<\/p>\n<p>The RNC complained about a March 2022 incident. <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2203.16743.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>\u00a0by North Carolina State University\u2019s Department of Computer Science researchers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe study\u2019s findings are shocking,\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/prod-static.gop.com\/media\/documents\/RNC_NRSC_NRCC_-_Complaint_Against_Google_04.26.22_1651002862.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complaint<\/a> said. \u201cAll three services displayed some disparity, with Outlook marking Democrat emails as spam approximately 27% more than Republican emails, and Yahoo marking Democrat emails as spam approximately 14% more. In comparison, however, Google\u2019s Gmail truly stands apart, as it marked Republican emails as spam at more than an 820% higher rate than it marked emails from Democrat candidates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Election Commission announced earlier this month that it found the allegations against Google\u2019s Gmail to be unfounded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThough the NCSU Study appears to demonstrate a disparate impact from Google\u2019s spam filter, it explicitly states that its authors have \u2018no reason to believe that there were deliberate attempts from these email services to create these biases to influence the voters,\u2019\u201d The FEC sent a letter addressing Google.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reportedly prepping to sue Google over the tech behemoth\u2019s dominance in the digital advertising space.
