Ruben Gallego announced Monday that he will run for the U.S. Senate in 2024, taking on the incumbent Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego\u2019s campaign adds to a likely three-way race in the general election after Sinema switched her party affiliation in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrowing up poor, all I had was the American dream. It kept me going: as a kid sleeping on the floor, a student scrubbing toilets, a Marine losing brothers in Iraq,\u201d Gallego tweeted along with a video launching the campaign.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The American dream was all I had as a child growing up poor. It kept me going as a child, a student, a Marine, and a Marine losing my brothers in Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>Too many Arizonans are seeing their dreams slip away today. I\u2019m running for the U.S. Senate to win it back for you! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ofUvUYRcTP\">pic.twitter.com\/ofUvUYRcTP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ruben Gallego (@RubenGallego) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RubenGallego\/status\/1617507452198469636?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 23, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cToday, too many Arizonans see their dream slipping away,\u201d Gallego was added. \u201cI\u2019m running for the U.S. Senate to win it back for you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The congressman\u2019s jump into the Senate election will likely serve as part of a large field of candidates competing for the seat in the primary election. Among the potential Republican candidates are Kari Lake (who lost his bid for governor in 2022) and Blake Masters (who lost his 2022 Senate campaign against incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly).<\/p>\n<p>Numerous other GOP candidates are also being considered. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaign\/arizona-senate-gallego-sinema-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rumored<\/a> A potential Arizona Senate race in 2024. U.S. Reps. Andy Biggs and Juan Ciscomani are among them. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is also included. 2022 gubernatorial hopeful Karrin Taylor Robson is also included. Kelli Ward, Arizona GOP Chairwoman, is also included.<\/p>\n<p>Early polls comparing Lake, Gallego and Sinema in a race for the general election show Lake at 36%, Gallego 32% and Sinema just 14%. One in six voters was undecided. <a href=\"https:\/\/blueprintpolling.com\/2023\/01\/11\/2024-arizona-election-preview-sinemas-long-odds-and-waning-enthusiasm-for-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to<\/a> Blueprint Polling\u2019s January 11 survey.<\/p>\n<p>The poll also noted that Sinema polls low among the state\u2019s Hispanic voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinema gets very little support from Hispanic voters, garnering 3% of their vote (Gallego leads Lake 41%-39% with this group), while Sinema gets the support of 17% of white Arizonans. Notably, Gallego does better with women by about 4% than with men, and Sinema enjoys a similar positive differential with men,\u201d According to Blueprint Polling<\/p>\n<p>Sinema was often at odds with those in her own Democratic Party for not always backing President Joe Biden\u2019s agenda. Most recently, the senator attended the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this month, where She spoke out against the Biden administration\u2019s border policies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key is to create a system where we get to choose as a nation who we will invite into the country and who we will not. Right now, because our immigration security system is completely broken, we are not choosing who gets to come and who doesn\u2019t. The cartels are choosing,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kemp-sinema-other-american-lawmakers-take-the-stage-at-world-economic-forum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cAnd that is not sustainable for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In December, Senator Elizabeth Warren also attracted attention after she announced that she was quitting the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn catering to the fringes, neither party has demonstrated much tolerance for diversity of thought,\u201d Sinema <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/opinion\/op-ed\/2022\/12\/09\/sen-kyrsten-sinema-of-arizona-why-im-registering-as-an-independent\/69712395007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cBipartisan compromise is seen as a rarely acceptable last resort, rather than the best way to achieve lasting progress. Payback against the opposition party has replaced thoughtful legislating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinema isn&#8217;t the only one who has left the party. Tulsi Gabrielbard, former Democratic presidential candidate and Hawaiian congresswoman, announced her resignation in October. Glenn Jeffries (West Virginia state senator) announced her departure. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/democratic-west-virginia-state-senator-switches-to-republican-party\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">left<\/a> The Democratic Party will join the Republicans in December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arizona Democratic Rep.
