Obviously, they have finite space in the coolers they use and that space is now being exceeded on a regular basis,\u201d Dr. Khan has been admitted.<\/p>\n<p>King County already has experienced more than one fatal overdose death per day from fentanyl in January. There were 31 deaths by Jan. 22, 2023. Last year, there were 1,019 overdose deaths in the county. The majority of these deaths were caused by fentanyl (686). It\u2019s the highest number of overdose deaths the county has ever <a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/depts\/health\/overdose-prevention\/data.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recorded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Addicts with a low storage space<\/h3>\n<p>Drug overdoses are straining the Medical Examiner\u2019s resources, forcing the county to adapt to the rise in deaths. Not only are these deaths on top of every other death handled by the county, but the area\u2019s population has also been growing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have options for temporary morgue surge capacity when our census count gets high, including storing decedents on autopsy gurneys and partnerships with funeral homes. We\u2019re exploring longer-term options for adding more capacity,\u201d A spokesperson for Public Health tells Jason Rantz on KTTH.<\/p>\n<p>The drug crisis has worsened considerably since Washington Democrats decriminalized drugs after the state supreme court deemed the state\u2019s felony possession law unconstitutional. Democrats had the option of changing one word in the law \u2014 adding \u201cknowingly\u201d to the possession law \u2014 but they opted to make it a misdemeanor, which is not charged. Essentially, Democrats legalized drugs to override Republican objections.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mynorthwest.com\/3782345\/rantz-seattle-police-department-walks-back-order-dui-suspects-flee-stolen-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Rantz: Seattle Police Department walks back order to let DUI suspects flee in stolen cars<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>In 2023, the crisis will get worse<\/h3>\n<p>Democrats don&#8217;t care about fixing their problems. Rather than focusing on re-criminalizing drugs, they\u2019re pushing bills to expand the availability of fentanyl testing strips. Obviously, that won\u2019t make a dent in the fatal overdoses. Democrats won&#8217;t condemn drug use because they claim that any judgment would stigmatize and discourage addicts from seeking treatment. Under the current permissive drug strategy, addicts aren\u2019t seeking treatment and homelessness is rising.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe biggest driver of these fatal overdoses involves fentanyl in white powder and in fake pills, which are flooding the streets,\u201d Dr. Khan noted.<\/p>\n<p>Where is the drug coming from? Our open southern border and chaotic points of entry with Mexico. While President Joe Biden has an open-border policy and Democrats do nothing to improve security, Democrats have no intention of tightening it. China has sent ingredients to make fentanyl to Mexico.
