Marshal Gail Curley\u2019s belated statement followed a flurry of concerns raised by reporters who noted that the detailed 20-page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/publicinfo\/press\/Dobbs_Public_Report_January_19_2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> On the leak, Curley failed to mention any investigative efforts focusing on justices. While Curley\u2019s clarification is helpful, further transparency and more rigor are needed.<\/p>\n<p>Last Thursday, the high court issued a statement along with Curley\u2019s report that followed the eight-month investigation into the leak of the draft opinion destined to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a> This draft was published on May 2, 2022. It reported that the majority of justices in this case were <em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health<\/em> Had \u201cvoted to strike down the landmark\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0decision\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision \u2014\u00a0<em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 that largely maintained the right,\u201d Politico wrote, quoting from the draft opinion Justice Samuel Alito\u2019s pronouncement that \u201c<em>Roe<\/em>\u00a0was egregiously wrong from the start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the leak, abortion activists immediately mobilized. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/05\/03\/protests-roe-v-wade-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launching<\/a> Protests at various locations across the country and outside the Supreme Court were held. In addition to the legal demonstrations, there were also protests by abortion apologists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/crime-and-justice\/commentary\/refusing-prosecute-those-protesting-supreme-court-justices-homes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">illegally<\/a> screamed vulgarities, and descended upon the homes of the originalist justices. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/05\/14\/5-pro-abortion-protesters-visit-justice-amy-coney-barretts-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">marching<\/a> Through the private neighborhoods in which Chief Justice John Roberts is located and where Justices\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/05\/07\/what-i-saw-when-protestors-marched-to-supreme-court-justices-homes\/\">Brett Kavanaugh<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/05\/09\/what-i-saw-when-protesters-marched-to-justice-alitos-house\/\">Alito<\/a>Amy Coney Barrett,, and their families live.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The illegal protests were meant to intimidate justices who were likely to sign off on this draft. <em>Dobbs <\/em>opinion, eventually escalated into an attempt on Kavanaugh\u2019s life, when a mentally unstable man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/06\/08\/kavanaugh-threat-arrest-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appeared<\/a> near the justice\u2019s Maryland home with a gun and a knife before turning himself into police.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Justice Roberts also issued a statement following the publication of the draft opinion by Politico.
