One of those areas was the political weaponization of the FBI and other elements of the Department of Justice and the intelligence community against Joe Biden\u2019s political opponents. However, before they could begin this process, the DoJ prevented them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/justice-dept-limits-cooperation-house-gop-led-investigations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter this week<\/a> Jim Jordan, the new head for the House Judiciary Committee who would be conducting this investigation. Jordan was informed in a letter by Carlos Uriarte (Assistant Attorney General), that there would be an investigation. \u201climits\u201d What cooperation the committee could hope to receive. This seems like a very shady move from a group public servants that are supposed to be doing nothing wrong. (CBS News)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The Justice Department told House Republicans there would be strict parameters limiting its ability to fully cooperate with congressional probes into the department\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"reader.external-link.num-0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/620991131\/2023-01-20-OUT-Jordan-HJC#fullscreen=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In a letter Friday<\/a>\u00a0Rep. Jim Jordan is the new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. The department stated that ongoing investigations must be protected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsistent with longstanding policy and practice, any oversight requests must be weighed against the Department\u2019s interests in protecting the integrity of its work,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte wrote. \u201cLongstanding Department policy prevents us from confirming or denying the existence of pending investigations in response to congressional requests or providing non-public information about our investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The letter may have come from Carlos Uriarte, but you know he didn\u2019t make that decision without getting a green light from Merrick Garland and, by default, the White House. They don&#8217;t want any scrutiny of how the FBI treated Biden-tagged people. \u201cmega MAGA\u201d When compared to major Democratic Party donors and supporters, conservatives are often viewed as more liberal than Democrats. When the GOP begins serious investigations into Hunter and Jim Biden\u2019s business dealings, there will almost certainly be more talk of \u201climits\u201d Like this.<\/p>\n<p>The DoJ claim seems thin as tissue paper. Uriarte is saying that the DoJ can\u2019t release information that might cause \u201cinterference in ongoing investigations.\u201d They claim that their policy allows only such congressional oversight \u201cextraordinary circumstances.\u201d But with all of the bizarre and shady things going on in the executive branch these days, nearly everything they\u2019re doing should qualify as an extraordinary circumstance.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true that federal law enforcement typically won\u2019t comment <em>Send it to reporters<\/em> About ongoing investigations. (Though they break that rule also when it\u2019s convenient to them.) In some cases, public knowledge can cause problems during an investigation. But if Congress wants to know what they\u2019re up to, the testimony could be moved to a closed session with no press access. And while we\u2019re on the subject, I don\u2019t recall the January 6 committee having any trouble getting people to come in and feed them information, do you? We didn\u2019t hear any talk of \u201climits\u201d These figures are from the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>While I was working, CNN was on my TV in the background. Garland and his associates had already been covered by the usual suspects. The GOP-led investigation is underway \u201cclearly political in nature\u201d And \u201cmessaging sideshows.\u201d (They\u2019re directly parroting statements already put out by the White House with that last one.) McCarthy must push back against this DoJ nonsense. Voters narrowly gave the House Republicans the power to advance their agenda.
