Jerry Moran stated, &#8220;a \u201ccyber-criminal\u201d An election filing revealed that he had taken $690,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moran\u2019s campaign treasurer, Timothy Gottschalk, wrote in a Federal Election Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/pdf\/091\/202212089548022091\/202212089548022091.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a>\u00a0This money was taken by a 501(c)(3) on December 8, 2022. \u201cthird party cyber criminal,\u201d A claim is being investigated by FBI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn November 14, 2022, our office was contacted by Astra Bank to notify us of potentially fraudulent activity concerning recent wire transfers to SRCP Media, Inc. After communications with staff, it was determined that two wires were sent for payment of fraudulent invoices. One wire was sent on October 25, 2022, for $345,000.00, and a second wire on November 9, 2022, for $345,000.00. For a total of $690,000.00,\u201d Gottschalk said in the filing: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/raw-investigates\/jerry-moran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0Raw Story<\/p>\n<p>The Kansas City Star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kansascity.com\/news\/politics-government\/article271449302.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that Moran\u2019s campaign purchased media time for commercials through SRCP during the election, which Moran won with 60% of the vote to Democrat challenger Mark Holland\u2019s 37%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Moran\u2019s office, they reported the incident to the Republic County Sheriff\u2019s Office on November 16, before the investigation was turned over to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCybercriminals targeted the accounting firm employed by Moran For Kansas and money was wired to fraudulent bank accounts,\u201d Tom Brandt was a spokesperson for Moran. \u201cAs soon as a discrepancy was realized, it was reported to law enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gottschalk stated that $168,184.03 was recovered on November 23. \u201cWe are currently pursuing all avenues available to recover the money and there is an ongoing investigation with the FBI,\u201d Brandt added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FBI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/01\/21\/republican-jerry-moran-campaign-cybercriminals-theft\">told<\/a> Axios, it was \u201caware of the incident\u201d However, we were unable to confirm any additional details.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moran, a senator since 2010, is the ranking member on Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies of the Appropriations committee. Moran is also the highest ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Moran was among the 18 Republicans who served in the Senate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/18-gop-senators-vote-for-omnibus-with-750k-earmark-for-group-wanting-trans-discourse-in-schools-and-ice-dismantled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who voted<\/a> to advance the Democrat\u2019s massive $1.7 trillion omnibus budget in December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The campaign staff of Republican Kansas Sen.
