covering the communications of Twitter\u2019s former staff before Elon Musk took over, revealed that the federal government had worked in tandem with the platform to regulate and censor speech. Although the media ignored the reports, they raised serious concerns. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/2023\/01\/19\/the-free-speech-debate-a-comprehensive-guide\/\" class=\"stylish-link\">First Amendment<\/a> concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Many began to wonder if the government was also working with other social media companies to stamp out speech they didn\u2019t like and direct state-approved public narratives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It is possible to stop asking questions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Reason\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span> Robby Soave <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2023\/01\/19\/how-the-cdc-became-the-speech-police\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>published<\/span><\/a><span> A story and a message. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/robbysoave\/status\/1616072212284379137\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>series of tweets<\/span><\/a><span> Thursday was designated the \u201cFacebook Files\u201d In which he discusses communications within the social media firm that seem to indicate a relationship between Facebook government and U.S. government, similar to that of Twitter.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"_ytid_27642\" data-origwidth=\"696\" data-origheight=\"391\" data-facadesrc=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sCZFCKi2Hug?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;modestbranding=1&#038;rel=0&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__ epyt-facade epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" data-epautoplay=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-spai-excluded=\"true\" class=\"epyt-facade-poster skip-lazy\" alt=\"YouTube player\" src=\"https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/sCZFCKi2Hug\/maxresdefault.jpg\" \/><button class=\"epyt-facade-play\" aria-label=\"Play\"><\/button><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>\u201cAccording to a trove of confidential documents obtained by <\/span><i><span>Reason<\/span><\/i><span>, health advisers at the CDC had significant input on pandemic-era social media policies at Facebook as well,\u201d Soave wrote. \u201cThey were consulted frequently, at times daily. They were actively involved in the affairs of content moderators, providing constant and ever-evolving guidance. They requested frequent updates about which topics were trending on the platforms, and they recommended what kinds of content should be deemed false or misleading.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Soave mentioned particular emails. \u201cHere are two issues we are seeing a great deal of misinfo on that we wanted to flag for you all,\u2019 reads one note from a CDC official. Another email with sample Facebook posts attached begins: \u2018BOLO for a small but growing area of misinfo.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThese Facebook Files show that the platform responded with incredible deference,\u201d He was observant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>There are numerous other examples of questionable government and Facebook interactions and Soave\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2023\/01\/19\/how-the-cdc-became-the-speech-police\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>entire story<\/span><\/a><span> It&#8217;s well worth the effort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Many dismissed the Twitter Files revelations and said that the government was simply asking the company to comply. No big deal, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This is a long-standing tactic used by the government, Soave explains. \u201cjawboning\u201d and isn\u2019t remotely as innocent as it might sound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As <strong>B<\/strong><\/span><b>ASEDPolitics<\/b><span>\u2019 Hannah Cox has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.based-politics.com\/2022\/12\/29\/the-10-worst-ways-government-tried-to-censor-people-on-social-media\/\" class=\"stylish-link\"><span>explained<\/span><\/a><span>, \u201cSome on the Left have tried to dismiss this overt violation of basic human rights, claiming that a government agency \u2018suggesting\u2019 or \u2018asking\u2019 for accounts to be censored is different than \u2018forcing\u2019 them to be. That argument is utter hogwash. When an entity has the power to break up your company, fine or jail your owners, haul your employees in for investigations\u2026their \u2018suggestions\u2019 are implied threats.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you don\u2019t do what they say, you know what comes next,\u201d Cox warned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Though Soave and every reporter who covered the Twitter Files are credentialed and respected in their field\u2014at least until the moment they diverge from establishment-think\u2014I expect the Facebook Files will also receive little attention from the legacy press. (It\u2019s not like the press should have any particular special interest in habitual assaults on the First Amendment or anything).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The reporters who have covered both the Twitter Files and now the Facebook Files come from across the political spectrum, but with reporting, that\u2019s not really supposed to matter. It\u2019s a \u2018just the facts, ma\u2019am\u2019 gig. <\/span><span>And that\u2019s what they\u2019ve done: Obtained, vetted, and shared the information they had.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Basic reporting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But watch how many words will continue to be spoken and written about the supposed threat of domestic terrorists in the wake of January 6, 2021 by supposed serious journalists, while nary a peep from these supposed serious journalists about a very real, widespread and now, near-proven threat to Americans\u2019 very first liberty as spelled out in the Bill of Rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Every American who believes in free speech is under threat from the world&#8217;s most powerful entity: the United States government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Nope. There is nothing to see.
