Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve introduced my first bill of the 118th Congress. It would defund Planned Parenthood. We need to protect the sanctity of life in this country. To all those marching at the March For Life, let\u2019s rally behind this bill and get it done!\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/laurenboebert\/status\/1616537815466266624\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boebert said in a tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than $633 million in taxpayers\u2019 dollars went to Planned Parenthood affiliates for the year ending June 30, 2021, the group said in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/40\/8f\/408fc2ad-c8c2-48da-ad87-be5cc257d370\/211214-ppfa-annualreport-20-21-c3-digital.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most recent annual report covering 2020-2021<\/a>. The group offers a variety of health services for women and also recognizes 383,460 abortion procedures. This is an increase from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2021\/02\/26\/planned-parenthood-is-providing-less-breast-screenings-wellness-exams-and-more-abortions-transgender-services\/?_gl=1*uvhiy*_ga*MTc4NTIyNDgzOC4xNjc0MjUzMTU4*_ga_W14BT6YQ87*MTY3NDI1MzE1OC4xLjAuMTY3NDI1MzE1OC42MC4wLjA.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">354,871 in the previous report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the group\u2019s advocacy arm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/issue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has a page on its website<\/a> It is claimed that politicians use the word &#8220;political&#8221; to refer to it. \u201cdefunding\u201d Planned Parenthood \u201cthey really mean blocking patients who depend on public health care funds from getting their care at Planned Parenthood health centers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under Boebert\u2019s legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/boebert.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-lauren-boebert-introduces-defund-planned-parenthood-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which boasts 29 co-sponsors<\/a>Federal tax dollars cannot be transferred to Planned Parenthood, its affiliates, for a period of one year. This is unless the entities agree not to provide funds or services that are geared towards abortions. There are exceptions outlined for the moratorium, including for abortions in a pregnancy that are the result of an act of rape or incest, as well as in cases when the mother\u2019s life is placed in danger.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cDefund Planned Parenthood Act\u201d Ordains secretaries from the Health and Human Services Department and Agriculture Departments to pursue repayment of any federal assistance Planned Parenthood and its affiliates receives. Boebert\u2019s bill also aims to appropriate $235,000 to community health center programs under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nachc.org\/focus-areas\/policy-matters\/health-center-funding\/330-program-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe nation\u2019s largest abortion provider has no business receiving taxpayer dollars. Planned Parenthood claims these funds go to healthcare for women, but last year, Planned Parenthood performed a record number of abortions while also reducing the number of well-woman exams and breast cancer screenings it performed,\u201d Boebert made the statement in a statement. \u201cInstead of funding Planned Parenthood, my bill will redirect this funding to community health centers that actually meet the health needs of women across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like many Republican bills over the years aimed to defund Planned Parenthood, this one is likely to be defeated. Although the GOP holds a slim majority of the House, Democrats who control both the Senate and the White House would likely oppose any such measure.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Republicans remain undeterred.\u00a0On the Senate side, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) announced Friday she will reintroduce the Protect Funding for Women\u2019s Health Care Act, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ernst.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/as-thousands-march-for-life-ernst-continues-fight-to-defund-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which a statement said<\/a> \u201cprohibits federal funding to Planned Parenthood or any of its affiliate organizations and redirects funds for other health services for women, such as cancer screenings, prenatal and postnatal care, immunizations, and other eligible services.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
