She was then sex traded again.<\/p>\n<p>Maryland held her there, despite a state agency saying the Interstate Compact on Juveniles required her return to her home state, based on the perception that her grandmother and grandfather, who had adopted her as their own child, were not sufficiently accepting of her transgender identity\u2014though evidence of this was flimsy because her school in deep-red Virginia had concealed the fact that she was living as a boy from her parents, who found out only shortly before she was trafficked.<\/p>\n<p>Sage\u2019s Law, also called <a href=\"https:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?231+sum+HB2432\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HB 2432<\/a> \u201cMinors &#038; students self-identifying as a gender different from biological sex; parental notification,\u201d would require schools to inform parents if their children are transitioning gender in school; block counselors from encouraging children to keep secrets from their parents; and ensuring that laws on child abuse cannot be interpreted as including parents who don\u2019t affirm a child\u2019s gender transition.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are in a difficult spot due to Democrat Del. Elizabeth Guzman had already discussed a bill to accomplish this. Guzman copped to the planned bill after The Daily Wire uncovered the boasting of a nationally-renowned school psychologist who said she was working with a lawmaker fitting Guzman\u2019s description \u201con a child protection bill that would make it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/top-national-school-psychologist-part-of-group-offering-to-pay-rehome-gay-kids-to-new-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal to not affirm<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guzman was elected as the lawmaker and spoke to local news \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-democrat-bill-would-criminally-prosecute-parents-who-dont-affirm-their-kids-as-transgender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">It could be a felony<\/a>, it could be a misdemeanor, but we know that CPS charge could harm your employment, could harm their education, because nowadays many people do a CPS database search before offering employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later, she claimed that her bill did not include the word \u201caffirm,\u201d However, she failed to introduce a bill in 2020 that would have redefined the term. \u201cabused or neglected child\u201d Include one of the parents \u201cinflicts, threatens to create or inflict, or allows to be created or inflicted upon such child a physical or mental injury on the basis of the child\u2019s gender identity or sexual orientation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Sage\u2019s case, similar logic about emotional abuse formed the basis for holding her, with a lawyer writing that the child \u201chad likely endured emotional abuse and neglect by his parents due to their failure to recognize his gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following outrage about Guzman\u2019s proposal, Virginia Democrats distanced themselves from the proposal, with Minority Leader Don Scott telling the Washington Post, \u201cShe has assured me that that bill will not be introduced\u2026 If such a bill were introduced, he added, \u201cit would be dead on arrival.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Democrats want to ensure that children are not separated from their parents over alleged emotional abuse\u2014not only by future changes to the law, but by the arguments of social workers and lawyers in individual cases under current law\u2014they could support LaRock\u2019s bill which does just that, Laura Hanford, a parent advocate who played a role in pushing for Sage\u2019s Law, told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Guzman bill shows that there\u2019s a very real chance that kids could be taken away from their parents if they \u2018misgender\u2019 them. This is the opposite of the Guzman bill,\u201d She said.<\/p>\n<p>Scott did not immediately return The Daily Wire\u2019s request for comment on whether Democrats will support the Republican proposal on parental rights.<\/p>\n<p>A Virginia group called the Pride Liberation Project\u2013with which the nationally-renowned school psychologist who helped craft Guzman\u2019s proposal was also involved\u2013offered trans youth that \u201cIn the event of you needing to leave your home, we can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pro-trans-group-behind-virginia-school-walkout-plans-to-rehome-gay-kids-who-hate-their-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provide you with emergency housing<\/a> from a supportive, Queer friendly adult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Liberals lashed out, calling it preposterous that their fellow travelers would actually take minors away from their parents and place them with other adults if a transgender youth said they didn\u2019t feel accepted by their parents. However, that\u2019s exactly what happened to Sage.<\/p>\n<p>Hanford stated that hiding information about children by schools can increase their risk of being sex-trafficked.
