His lawyer claims the charges against him are a felony. \u201cterrible miscarriage of justice.\u201d Baldwin is an anti-Second Amendment activist and has a history of demonizing guns in criminal shootings rather than the person who pulled the trigger. It is not surprising that he is being brought to trial, but the weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin believes that everyone and everything is responsible for the shooting. To skirt responsibility, Baldwin has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2022\/nov\/12\/alec-baldwin-rust-film-shooting-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">insisted<\/a> The staff claimed that the weapon was empty and that he didn&#8217;t pull it (a claim the FBI forensically examined). <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/13\/fbi-confirms-alec-baldwin-pulled-trigger-in-fatal-rust-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> It is impossible to believe that this statement could be true. Yet even if Baldwin\u2019s gun had fired without him pulling the trigger, Baldwin would still be at fault for failing to follow safety protocol.<\/p>\n<p>John R. Lott Jr. is president of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Crime Prevention Research Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/20\/alec-baldwin-lost-any-credible-defense-when-violated-the-first-rule-of-gun-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">writes<\/a>, \u201cThe first rule of gun safety is you don\u2019t point a gun at something unless you intend to shoot it. Even if you believe the gun is unloaded, you don\u2019t point it directly at others.\u201d Baldwin didn&#8217;t follow the first rule, when he recklessly pointed his gun at Hutchins.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea that the person holding the gun and causing it to discharge is not responsible is absurd,\u201d said Halyna\u2019s husband, Matt Hutchins, in an\u00a0interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/02\/alec-baldwin-blamed-halyna-hutchins-death-today-interview-matt-hutchins-1234958948\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Today<\/a>. As absurd as it might seem, though, that\u2019s exactly what Baldwin and other anti-gun activists want us to believe.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin has been a vocal critic of the National Rifle Association and other pro-Second Amendment organizations. Baldwin joined an array of Hollywood elites in 2018 \u201cNo Rifle Association Initiative,\u201d Which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2018\/apr\/20\/nra-alec-baldwin-amy-schumer-join-anti-nora-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sought<\/a>\u00a0to reduce the NRA\u2019s influence. Baldwin got into a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/alec-baldwin-nra-guns-rights-activists-gun-control-halyna-hutchins-rust-1641671\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Twitter spat<\/a>\u00a0Dana Loesch was an ex-NRA spokesperson in the same year. She tweeted that Loesch \u201cdoesn\u2019t care how many dead bodies she has to step over in [her] pursuit\u201d To defend the Second Amendment and to add that the Second Amendment must be \u201crethought.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin and other anti-Second Amendment activists seem to have missed philosophy 101. Inanimate objects such as firearms aren&#8217;t necessarily evil. However, the actions of gun-wielders can be.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take, for instance. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/18\/the-real-hero-good-guy-with-gun-ends-mass-shooting-in-indiana-mall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last July<\/a>On September 5, three people were shot and killed by a gunman at a Greenwood, Indiana mall. The assailant was also killed by another man, a 22-year-old legally armed man.
