A D.C. resident earning below 80 percent of the median household income could be eligible for the benefit. &#8220;up to $1,200&#8221; To purchase an electric bicycle. A resident who earns 80 percent or more than the median income may be eligible for up to $500.<\/p>\n<p>This bill could be good news to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg who is a prolific cyclist. <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/buttigieg-bike-share\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infamously caught riding a D.C. communal bike<\/a>. Buttigieg has been criticized for his poor job performance. He took paid leave for children during the supply-chain crisis, and he also vacationed in Portugal during crucial rail contract negotiations. His department has been able to prioritize under his leadership. &#8220;diversity, equity, and inclusion&#8221; Measures, <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/heres-what-the-faa-has-been-focused-on-instead-of-keeping-planes-in-the-air\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pinto described electric bikes in the same way as traditional bicycles. &#8220;an environmentally friendly way to more easily get around the city,&#8221; Residents of D.C. may feel unsafe riding in the open. The 2021 murder rate was the highest in almost 20-years. There are still a lot of carjackings in D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Pinto and her council colleagues this month rewrote the city&#8217;s criminal codes, which reduced crime. &#8220;sentences for carjackings, robberies, and gun-related felonies,&#8221;\u00a0the\u00a0Free Beacon\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/d-c-council-overrides-mayors-veto-lightens-sentencing-for-carjackings-gun-crimes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.\u00a0The overhaul was too radical for Muriel Bowser, Democratic mayor of Muriel Bowser, and the liberal <em>Washington Post<\/em>.
