City Councilman, was taken into custody Tuesday morning by Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was charged with corruption and allegedly taking hundreds of thousand of dollars in bribes. \u201ccriminal enterprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Huizar represent[ed] Downtown Los Angeles. According to the DOJ, he solicited bribes, especially from Chinese developers, in order to speed up the city&#8217;s planning process.<\/p>\n<p>The city settled a case of sexual harassment against the city. In 2014, the ex-L.A. City councilman allegedly had a relationship with his deputy chief.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2023-01-19\/jose-huizar-agrees-to-plead-guilty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>Jose Huizar, an ex-member of Los Angeles City Council, has pleaded guilty for racketeering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Huizar, in a plea deal filed in Los Angeles federal courts, acknowledged that sweeping corruption accusations that he has long denied were true. He said that he was aware of the facts. \u201cpleading guilty because I am guilty of the charges.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Huizar\u2019s unexpected capitulation caps a brutal downfall for a man who was born into poverty on a Mexican ranch, grew up in Boyle Heights, and went on to earn a master\u2019s at Princeton and a law degree at UCLA before serving 15 years on the L.A. Huizar, however, promised to not ask for less than nine. The U.S. District Judge John F.
