ET.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FBI, DOJ aren\u2019t investigating this matter,\u201d He added. \u201cNo, subpoenas have gone out, nothing. And so, I don\u2019t have any faith in this new special counsel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-merrick-garland\">Merrick Garland<\/a> This was the culmination of a turbulent week in the Biden administration. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/attorney-general-appoints-special-counsel-to-investigate-documents-found-at-bidens-home-office_4981026.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">appointing<\/a> Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/what-we-know-about-robert-hur-special-counsel-probing-bidens-handling-of-classified-documents_4981683.html\">Robert Hur<\/a> as special counsel to probe Biden\u2019s storage of classified documents in unsecured locations.<\/p>\n<p>Trump appointee Hur was U.S. assistant for the District of Maryland, April 2018 to February 2021. After that, he left the Department of Justice for private practice.<\/p>\n<p>Hur worked at the DOJ from 2003 to 2018, in various capacities, reporting to familiar people like Christopher Wray (now-FBI Director) and Rod Rosenstein (ex-Deputy Attorney General).<\/p>\n<p>Patel says that Hur can&#8217;t be trusted to remain objective because of this fact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Trump administration, when Jeff Sessions was recused from all the Russiagate stuff, Rod Rosenstein was the attorney general for all those matters,\u201d Patel added that Rosenstein was also mentioned. \u201chand-picked\u201d Hur will be serving as the principal assistant deputy attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow they handled the Russiagate investigation is my problem,\u201d Patel stated.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4990663\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-4990663 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/GettyImages-1246256077-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\"   style=\"display:none\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4990663 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/GettyImages-1246256077-1200x800-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/noscript> On Jan. 15, 2023, President Joe Biden attended a service at Ebenezer Baptist church in Atlanta, Ga. (Brendan Smialowski\/AFP via Getty Images).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>A \u2018Political Charade\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller special counsel to the Trump Russia investigation, in 2017 after Jeff Sessions, the then-Attorney general, was unable get involved. Rosenstein was also involved in the investigation into Trump-Russia. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/rosenstein-wouldnt-sign-application-now-to-spy-on-trump-associate_3375356.html\">signed off<\/a> on spying on Carter Page, an ex-Trump campaign associate.<\/p>\n<p>Patel, at the time serving as senior counsel to House Intelligence Committee said that Rosenstein, Hur and his records were subpoenaed while he was trying to expose \u201cthe corruption of Russiagate,\u201d They had. \u201cblockaded\u201d the committee\u2019s attempts to obtain information on the probe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Hur] doesn\u2019t get a hall pass from me,\u201d He stated. \u201cI think he\u2019s just another one of these corrupt government gangsters who \u2026 was politically chosen by Merrick Garland because they\u2019ll be able to say the following headline: \u2018A Former Trump Appointee Is the Special Counsel Investigating Joe Biden.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Describing Hur\u2019s appointment as a \u201cpolitical charade,\u201d Patel was added: \u201cJust like in the Russiagate days, I think [the DOJ is] already setting the landscape for the cover-up that they need to have happen so their own problematic handling of prior investigations is not exposed. So, that\u2019s why I have no faith in this new special counsel, and I just don\u2019t see it becoming an actual investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general described Hur as having &#8220;a great deal of integrity&#8221; when he appointed him. \u201clong and distinguished career as a prosecutor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident that Mr. Hur will carry out his responsibility in an even-handed and urgent manner, and in accordance with the highest traditions of this Department,\u201d Garland was added.<\/p>\n<p>Although Hur was not present for Garland\u2019s announcement, he pledged to conduct his duties as special counsel with \u201cfair, impartial, and dispassionate judgment\u201d The DOJ released a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI intend to follow the facts swiftly and thoroughly,\u201d Hur added \u201cwithout fear or favor, and will honor the trust placed in me to perform this service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hur was contacted by The Epoch Times to provide comment.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Uncertain Timeline<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>According to the White House, the first cache of classified documents in Biden\u2019s possession was discovered on Nov. 2 at the Penn Biden Center in Washington and reported immediately to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). They were then sent to NARA the following day.<\/p>\n<p>According to Attorney General Merrick Garland, the National Archives Office of the Inspector General notified the Justice Department of the documents\u2019 discovery on Nov. 4 and the FBI opened an investigation into the matter on Nov. 9.<\/p>\n<p>Patel, however, said he doubts the administration\u2019s timeline of events, finding it unlikely that NARA was unaware that the documents were missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre we really to believe that our top librarians in the United States of America didn\u2019t know for six years that these documents were missing?\u201d he said, adding that the matter should be investigated by the House\u2019s newly-formed Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans won last week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/house-republicans-demand-list-of-names-linked-to-biden-documents_4983414.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">launched their own investigations<\/a> into Biden\u2019s possession of classified materials, requesting access to all the classified documents that had been discovered by the president\u2019s attorneys\u00a0\u201cat any location,\u201d In addition to the names and locations of those involved in the search, there are also communications between NARA, White House, and DOJ on the subject.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4980727\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy wp-image-4980727 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/themes\/eet\/images\/white.png\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/GettyImages-82517844-1200x827-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4980727 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/GettyImages-82517844-1200x827-1.jpg\" alt=\"Epoch Times Photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" \/><\/noscript> Reporters play frisbee outside Joe Biden\u2019s home in Wilmington, Del., in 2008. (William Thomas Cain\/Getty Images).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Other Concerns<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Since the first stash of documents was located, additional documents have been found at Biden\u2019s Wilmington, Delaware, residence, in searches conducted by his personal attorneys. Even though the White House has made public disclosures about the results of these searches, there are still many unanswered questions.<\/p>\n<p>Noting that it is still unclear as to how the classified materials ended up in Biden\u2019s possession and were moved to those different locations, Patel said it was important to find out whether there were more documents to be found in other locations and who had access to the materials.<\/p>\n<p>As no visitor logs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/no-visitor-logs-exist-for-bidens-house-where-classified-documents-were-found-white-house_4988184.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exist<\/a> for Biden\u2019s Wilmington home, Patel said Congress should question all the Secret Service agents who have protected Biden over the last six years to learn more about who might have had access to the documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDid the Secret Service have knowledge back then that there were sensitive documents running around in the wild?\u201d He added. \u201cThat\u2019s another question that no one\u2019s asking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Secret Service,\u00a0according to spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, screens all of the president\u2019s visitors but does not keep records of who is vetted.<\/p>\n<p>Other questions have arisen regarding the DOJ\u2019s handling of the investigation thus far, like the department\u2019s decision to allow Biden\u2019s personal attorneys to carry out the document searches without any supervision from law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s like having someone commit the murder \u2026 and then you let the murderer go and collect the evidence and bring it back to the cops,\u201d Patel noted. \u201cThat\u2019s absurd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patel also contrasted the situation against that of the DOJ\u2019s investigation into former President Donald Trump\u2019s storage of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, alleging that the department\u2019s political bias against Trump was now on full display.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow is it that Merrick Garland can go to a podium and now say, \u2018Well, it was justified that we went in with a full SWAT force into Mar-a-Lago, and it\u2019s justified that we are letting President Biden\u2019s attorneys conduct their own search of classified documents, who may or may not have the appropriate security clearances\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Implications for 2024<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Prior to the White House\u2019s public disclosure last week of the classified materials\u2019 discovery, it was anticipated that Biden would announce his intention to seek reelection within the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>However, the investigation was announced and prominent Democrats began to respond. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/top-democrats-back-appointment-of-special-counsel-to-probe-records-found-at-bidens-home_4983124.html?utm_source=ai&#038;utm_medium=search\">calling for a special counsel<\/a>, some began to wonder whether there wasn\u2019t more to the timing of the announcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s a coincidence that this story broke the week or two before the world was to learn whether or not Joe Biden was going to run for reelection,\u201d Patel noted.<\/p>\n<p>This suggests that the scandal was leaked. \u201csideline\u201d He posited that Biden. \u201cWhat I believe is happening is there are people in the Democratic Party and the establishment media who don\u2019t want Joe Biden to run for reelection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other people have also believed the same thing, such as Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), which stated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/matt-gaetz-classified-docs-scandal-feels-like-democrats-taking-out-joe-biden\">Fox News<\/a>\u00a0on Wednesday, \u201cThere\u2019s an element to this that feels like the Democrats are taking out Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know that that\u2019s the case, but I don\u2019t know that it\u2019s not,\u201d Gaetz added. \u201cBut just as Joe Biden is hardening the cement around his decision to run for president again, they start looking for what classified documents might have been tucked away eight years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patel, however, said that it was unlikely that Biden would be charged by the DOJ in this case. Instead, he held that the department would do the bidding of the Democratic Party and, using the legal woes of Biden\u2019s son Hunter as leverage, convince him not to run again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ll say, \u2018Hey, look, we\u2019ll probably walk your son Hunter into a really nice deep plea agreement where he\u2019s not charged with anything serious and you as a sitting president can commute or pardon him,\u201d He suggested. \u201cAnd then you guys can leave and go live your lives, and we, the Democrats, will put up a candidate we think can defeat Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times contacted the White House and Justice Department for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Defense Department Chiefs of Staff Kash Patel He said that he doesn&#8217;t trust the special counsel to investigate President Barack Obama fairly.
