But some of the injuries are self-inflicted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the gala has been made virtual. Films that are traditionally shown at the festival have a harder time sharing their films with the general public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCall Jane,\u201d A pro-abortion drama starring Elizabeth Banks debuted at Sundance last summer, but it was unsuccessful in theaters upon its Fall 2022 release. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/honk-for-jesus-save-your-soul-review\/\">Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul<\/a>\u201d Similar attacks were made.<\/p>\n<p>The rights to the former <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/film\/news\/honk-for-jesus-save-your-soul-focus-features-peacock-sundance-1235174187\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold for $8.5 million<\/a> However, the film only earned $2.5 million theatrically (the title premiered simultaneously on Peacock).<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s Sundance screening of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/secret-behind-jihad-rehab-comeback-cancel-culture\/\">Jihad Rehab<\/a>\u201d This led to a belated Cancel Culture disaster. What was the result? Festival officials apologized for showing a film that had received glowing reviews. The festival has become more stringent in its screening policy. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/woke-film-festivals-problematic-sundance\/\">so-called controversial films<\/a>, as if a film festival isn\u2019t the ideal venue for challenging art.<\/p>\n<p>All of this may seem insignificant compared to the most recent revelation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/big-tech-censorship-conservative-comedy\/\"><strong>RELATED: BIG TECH IS CRUSHING UNWOKE COMEDY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The festival starts today. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/redford-sundance-catalog-diversity\/\">Robert Redford\u2019s vision<\/a> An indie-minded movie experience in your mind.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s on paper, at least.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal reports that anyone interested in watching a Sundance screening online \u2013 this year\u2019s event is both in-person and virtual) better pony up more than just a few dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Geipel, WSJ reporter says he tried. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-sundance-film-festival-loyalty-oath-community-agreement-safety-belonging-orwellian-movies-11674058326\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up via Sundance\u2019s online portal<\/a> Recently, however, he ran into a problem. He realized that virtual attendees had to agree to what he called a &#8220;a&#8221; agreement. \u201cloyalty oath\u201d to ensure they embrace the festival\u2019s woke spirit.<\/p>\n<p>The event\u2019s \u201ccommunity agreement\u201d includes several clauses, \u00a0like virtual attendees must \u201cavoid unwelcome sexual attention, harassment, stalking and inappropriate physical contact of any kind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They should also be aware of the spread COVID-19 (is this a soft vaccination mandate?). Geipel also shared how the waiver prevents intimidation tied to\u00a0race, gender, position or wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Is that to say there aren&#8217;t jokes about the famous and wealthy? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/the-menu-review-fiennes\/\">\u201cThe Menu\u201d<\/a> couldn\u2019t attend this year\u2019s event, alas.<\/p>\n<p>The message also included a name-optional reporting mechanism to spy on anyone who tries to flout these rules. Submissions will be taken seriously and\u00a0reviewed by Sundance\u2019s \u201cSafety and Belonging\u201d team.<\/p>\n<p>Could they have chosen a more Orwellian title?<\/p>\n<p>This is an online festival film viewing site. That doesn\u2019t impact anyone\u2019s pandemic fears, and it\u2019s unlikely virtual audiences will be able to harass someone from the comfort of their couches.<\/p>\n<p>Those who\u00a0run afoul of the rules risk a ban from all Sundance-related projects.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/sundance-film-festivals-diversity-sham\/\"><strong>RELATED: SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL\u2019S DIVERSITY SHAM<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What do you think about these new rules for Redford? The Hollywood icon is 86 and hasn\u2019t availed himself to the public as he had in previous years.<\/p>\n<p>How about directors, screenwriters, actors who participate in the gala every year? Are they aware of these new rules? Do they accept them or are they able to understand their totalitarian nature.<\/p>\n<p>Sundance Film Festival was established in 1981 and is a strong part of Hollywood&#8217;s ecosystem.
