It was first reported that Neil Cross, Luther creator, had been hired to write a story for the franchise. <em>Escape L.A<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Cross and the project were never completed. It was reported in 2017 that Robert Rodriguez, the director, was in negotiations for an opportunity to assume the role of director. <em>Escape New York<\/em> reboot. This also seemed to have stalled and in 2020, Leigh Whannel, writer and director, was hired for an <em>Escape New York<\/em> project. We\u2019re developing our take, and hopefully, it will be going to script sometime in the New Year, and just really starting to lay the groundwork for that. (1996) Paramount Pictures<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As for what their project actually is, Gillett detailed what it\u2019s not, \u201cNot a remake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He elaborated, \u201cThat\u2019s one of those properties that you can\u2019t [remake], it\u2019s sort of untouchable to us, and lives in its own stratosphere in terms of how important it is to us, and how much we love it. This is the thing about my career in Hollywood \u2014 no one tells me anything. They never tell me things. The last I heard was they were developing it where Snake would be a woman. But, no, I haven\u2019t heard about this latest thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cNo one wants me around, and they don\u2019t tell me anything to keep me in the dark. It\u2019s safer for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carpenter stated that he received some information from his wife who was also present during the interview. \u201cApparently, we got an email. It\u2019s all illegitimate. No, not seriously [discussed a sequel]. I don\u2019t know what they\u2019re going to do.
