Treasury Secretary <a href=\"http:\/\/dailywire.com\/topic\/janet-yellen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janet Yellen<\/a> It was previously stated that the funding will allow staff members to upgrade information tech systems. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/janet-yellen-a-strong-irs-is-critical-to-the-economic-success-of-this-country\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more easily assist<\/a> Individuals and small business owners who wish to file their taxes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tigta.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/reports\/2023-01\/2023ier003fr.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration indicated however that they are still unsure how the funds&#8217; actions will impact the audit rates of middle-income taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation Reduction Act allocated $45.6 billion to enforcement activities that will empower the agents. \u201cdetermine and collect taxes owed.\u201d To help taxpayers, $3.2 billion will go to \u201cfiling and account services, pre-filing assistance, and education,\u201d The $4.8 billion will go towards business system modernization. \u201ccan be invested\u201d In customer service technology.<\/p>\n<p>The agency\u2019s budget for enforcement activity will therefore increase 69% over the next decade, while the budget for taxpayer services will increase 9%. The rest of the funding will be used to pay rent, facilities, and telecommuting costs.<\/p>\n<p>Yellen previously stated that new resources would not be used to raise audit rates for American households with less than $400,000 annually. \u201crelative to historical levels.\u201d She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/janet-yellen-vows-irs-audits-wont-rise-for-middle-income-americans-but-theres-a-catch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a> This is to clarify. \u201chistorical levels\u201d Enforcement was much higher in the past decade: Audit rates for Americans with incomes between $25,000-$200,000 decreased 76% between 2010 &#038; 2019, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/assets\/gao-22-104960.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> From the Government Accountability Office.<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration document also reveals that IRS officials are also included in the document. \u201chave not yet finalized what constituted the $400,000 income level or what historic audit level will be used for its metrics,\u201d Further, this indicates that such matters are \u201cstill being discussed between the IRS and the Treasury Department.\u201d However, the agency maintains that there isn\u2019t \u201can immediate risk\u201d You could be charged with violating the agreement \u201cemployee attrition and hiring challenges will limit its ability to conduct more audits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire received a copy of the House Ways and Means Committee&#8217;s document. This analysis concluded that \u201cwhen they have the numbers, they\u2019ll perform the audits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when Americans are facing the double threat of sky-high inflation and an economy in recession, top bureaucrats at the IRS are huddling over how to spend their $80 billion windfall, and what technicalities they can use to justify auditing families and small businesses,\u201d Jason Smith, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee (R-MO), stated this in a statement that was provided to The Daily Wire. \u201cPresident Biden and Secretary Yellen need to come clean with the American public about the true extent of their enforcement plans and exactly how many middle-class families will be swept up in their audit scheme.
