You know, I love being from there,\u201d The actress stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s like, it\u2019s heavy, man. Right?\u201d Maron replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think everywhere is heavy. Everywhere has its history. You know what I mean? It\u2019s \u2026 I think everywhere has problems,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cYou can\u2019t deny that southern history is intense,\u201d She continued, before stating that her experience in Alabama was less racist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, what\u2019s beautiful for me is that stuff preceded me. You know, I was a child of the \u201970s \u2026 You know, as you grow older and the things that you can remember. That wasn\u2019t a part of my history. I learned about it. It\u2019s not everything \u2026 anything that I experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother definitely, you know, taught us about the world and the realities, the harsh realities of the world and history,\u201d The \u201cSelf Made\u201d star continued. \u201cBut growing up in Alabama, I\u2019m going to be honest, I felt more racism when I first moved [to Los Angeles] than I ever, ever had in Alabama.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spencer stated that she expected Los Angeles would be progressive. She thought back to the time she was thinking. \u201cOh, California is gonna be this free and liberal thinking place,\u201d But she claimed that she was singled while shopping in a shop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is so funny. It\u2019s right out of \u2018Pretty Woman,\u2019\u201d She spoke of the experience. \u201cI remember going into a shop and being followed, like, at first, I didn\u2019t even \u2014 I was just, like, so excited, like just walking around, and then I realized that I was being followed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued: \u201cIt was kind of strange in that way,\u201d The incident was described as \u201cglaringly obvious,\u201d but that she doesn\u2019t believe she\u2019s been discriminated against since then.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer made her film debut with the adaptation of \u201cA Time to Kill\u201d 1996.
