Instead,\u00a0Longmont was\u00a0drawn into District 19.<\/p>\n<p>A month later in November 2021,\u00a0Bernett reportedly rented an apartment and changed her car registration to a Louisville address in the newly-drawn House District 12, which\u00a0leans heavily in Democrats\u2019 favor, so that she could run for reelection in District 12.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the representative\u00a0changed her voter registration and submitted a sworn candidate affidavit with the Secretary of State\u2019s Office under the new Louisville address.<\/p>\n<h2>Investigation Suggests Bernett Did Not Live at Residence<\/h2>\n<p>She then went on to win reelection for House District 12 on Nov. 8 after\u00a0beating Republican opponent Anya Kirvan with 78.7 percent of votes.<\/p>\n<p>However, a resident filed a complaint with the District Attorney\u2019s Office on Sept. 19 alleging Bernett did not actually live at the newly-registered address and the office launched an investigation, using search warrants and\u00a0cellphone location information, according to reports.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty told multiple media outlets that\u00a0the investigation had found that there was evidence that\u00a0Bernett never actually\u00a0lived in the Louisville apartment that she claimed was her primary residence and only rented it to qualify for elective office.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado law states that representative candidates must be\u00a0at least 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the district they wish to represent for at least 12 months before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-election\">election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe District Attorney\u2019s Office has concluded a thorough investigation. I appreciate the efforts of the investigators assigned to this case, including using proper investigative tools such as the judicially authorized search warrants,\u201d Denver7. \u201cBased on the facts and the law, we will now move forward with a criminal prosecution.
