On Feb. 8, 2020, Andersen wrote in an email that the group\u2019s work was \u201cfocused on trying to disprove any type of lab theory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andersen was eventually the first to be listed on the paper. \u201cThe Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2,\u201d This paper was the most influential about COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic. The group included several members.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/11\/24\/anthony-fauci-lab-leak-emails-nih-wuhan-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">at first supportive<\/a>\u00a0The lab-leak theory, before suddenly changing their course. Andersen claimed that the group was there to disprove the theory at the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur main work over the last couple of weeks has been focused on trying to disprove any type of lab theory, but we are at a crossroad where the scientific evidence isn\u2019t conclusive enough to say that we have high confidence in any of the three main theories considered,\u201d In that Feb. 8 email, he sent the following message to the scientists.<\/p>\n<p data-inc=\"2\">Andersen initially objected to publishing a paper on this subject. However, he was later informed.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/06\/02\/kristian-andersen-anthony-fauci-covid-engineered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fauci and others<\/a>\u00a0Nature Medicine accepted \u201cProximal Origin\u201d For publication. \u201cNice job on the paper,\u201d Fauci replied.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/11\/30\/house-republicans-mcmorris-guthrie-griffith-letter-nih-covid-19-origins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: House Republicans Demand NIH Not Destroy Docs On COVID-19 Origins)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Intercept was contacted by scientists who stated that the evolution in views displayed in the emails is a sign of scientific progress. However, others were puzzled at why some researchers had changed their minds so quickly. Andersen of Tulane University and Robert Garry from Tulane University had both received large NIH grants to support their research over the previous years. Fouchier and others were critical of the lab leak theory.
