It was then repealed under former President Donald Trump who tried to portray it during his 2020 campaign as part of a war against the suburbs. Trump\u2019s attack on the rule<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/ben-carson-moves-to-overhaul-obama-fair-housing-rule-wants-more-construction\">overrode earlier efforts<\/a><br \/>\n Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He proposed to change the rule to encourage localities not to discourage segregation but to ease zoning restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/biden-partially-restores-obama-fair-housing-rule-suburbs\">had partially restored<\/a><br \/>\n The Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule was adopted in June 2013 but the compliance portion of the rule had been withheld.
