Critics argue that this philosophy confuses profit maximization, political and social agendas like reducing carbon emissions and promoting purported race equity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorporations across America continue to inject an ideological agenda through our economy rather than through the ballot box,\u201d DeSantis spoke in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/2023\/01\/17\/governor-ron-desantis-further-prohibits-woke-esg-considerations-from-state-investments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cToday\u2019s actions reinforce that ESG considerations will not be tolerated here in Florida, and I look forward to extending these protections during this legislative session.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/ESG-Resolution-Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a> Mandates that investment decisions be made \u201cmust be based only on pecuniary factors\u201d These exclude the \u201cconsideration of the furtherance of social, political, or ideological interests\u201d Adds the State Board of Administration \u201cmay not sacrifice investment return or take on additional investment risk to promote any non-pecuniary factors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis suggested measures to the new Florida Legislature to ban financial institutions \u201cdiscriminating against consumers for their religious, political, or social beliefs,\u201d ESG rankings should be prohibited from preventing residents access to financial services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI and my fellow trustees have an obligation to make responsible investment decisions on behalf of the beneficiaries we represent, not cater to woke corporate executives trying to force political ideology,\u201d In a press release, Ashley Moody, Florida Attorney General, stated. \u201cThrough this action today, we will continue to fight back against ESG agendas that put partisan ideology ahead of financial returns for Florida\u2019s retirees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis&#8217; actions come one month after the Florida Treasury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/florida-pulling-2-billion-from-blackrock-as-company-pushes-social-engineering-with-taxpayer-dollars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">divested<\/a> BlackRock, an asset management company, has donated $2 billion to the ESG movement. Jimmy Patronis, Florida&#8217;s Chief Financial Officer, informed Larry Fink of BlackRock that the state needed $2 billion. \u201cpartners within the financial services industry who are as committed to the bottom line as we are\u201d Added that the state would also be \u201ctaking its business elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The divestment was among the largest such efforts from other state governments led by Republican officials, who have contended that prominent asset managers\u2019 voting priorities, such as pressuring portfolio companies to transition away from fossil fuels, constitute the mismanagement of public assets. BlackRock has taken \u201cvoting action on climate issues\u201d An investment stewardship report reveals that there are dozens of portfolio companies against which to choose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackrock.com\/corporate\/literature\/publication\/our-commitment-to-sustainability-full-report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>Some officials were able to see that this activism could be a possibility. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/state-attorneys-general-move-to-block-vanguards-climate-crusade-from-impacting-public-power-grids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raise<\/a> Prices for energy in the United States<\/p>\n<p>Treasurers of Republican states <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/states-have-pulled-nearly-12-billion-from-blackrock-this-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">divested<\/a> BlackRock received over $12 billion in revenue last year.
