On Thursday, the Supreme Court called premature disclosure of the opinion. &#8220;one of the worst betrayals of trust in its history&#8221;  &#8220;a grave assault on the judicial process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the investigation, investigators interviewed almost 100 Supreme Court employees. Of these, 82 had access to hard or electronic copies of the draft opinion by conservative Justice Samuel Alito.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/05\/02\/supreme-court-abortion-draft-opinion-00029473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> It reported in May that it had obtained a snipped copy of the opinion. This indicates that the Supreme Court is poised to change its five-decade-old ruling, Roe v. Wade.<\/p>\n<p>According to the leak report, June saw the release of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;rct=j&#038;q=&#038;esrc=s&#038;source=web&#038;cd=&#038;cad=rja&#038;uact=8&#038;ved=2ahUKEwj-wuT0q9T8AhXQElkFHSDrBhYQFnoECAsQAQ&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnbc.com%2F2022%2F06%2F24%2Froe-v-wade-overturned-by-supreme-court-ending-federal-abortion-rights.html&#038;usg=AOvVaw0JWFyYI0OyZVLvAT7Fg9SO\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court<\/a> Alito&#8217;s majority opinion stated that there is no federal right to abort. Dobbs (v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization) was the case that led to this opinion. This case challenged Mississippi&#8217;s restrictive abortion law.<\/p>\n<p>Following the leak, Chief Justice John Roberts ordered Gail Curley (marshal of the Supreme Court) to investigate who leaked the draft opinion to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In following up on all available leads &#8230; the Marshal&#8217;s team performed additional forensic analysis and conducted multiple follow-up interviews of certain employees,&#8221; Thursday&#8217;s statement by the Supreme Court was accompanied by Curley\u2019s report on the probe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But the team has to date been unable to identify a person responsible by a preponderance of the evidence,&#8221; The court ruled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbed\" id=\"ArticleBody-InlineImage-106873211\" data-test=\"InlineImage\">\n<div class=\"InlineImage-wrapper\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbedCaption\">Samuel Alito, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in Washington poses during a group picture of Justices at the Supreme Court. April 23, 2021.<\/div>\n<div class=\"InlineImage-imageEmbedCredit\">Erin Schaff | Pool | Reuters<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>Curley stated in her report that investigators had examined court computers, networks and printers. &#8220;and available call and text logs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But &#8220;investigators have found no forensic evidence indicating who disclosed the draft opinion,&#8221; Curley wrote.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that her team was also very supportive. &#8220;conducted 126 formal interviews of 97 employees, all of whom denied disclosing the opinion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Despite these efforts, investigators have been unable to determine at this time, using a preponderance of the evidence standard, the identity of the person(s) who disclosed the draft majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Org. or how the draft opinion was provided to Politico,&#8221; Curley wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In its statement, the Supreme Court stated that Curley&#8217;s investigation was evaluated by Michael Chertoff (an ex-federal judge and prosecutor and former secretary of Homeland Security).<\/p>\n<p>Chertoff &#8220;has advised that the Marshal &#8216;undertook a thorough investigation&#8217; and, &#8216;[a]t this time, I cannot identify any additional useful investigative measures&#8217; not already undertaken or underway,&#8221; The court ruled.<\/p>\n<p>The statement stated that investigators would continue to review electronic data that had been collected for the probe. &#8220;and a few other inquiries remain pending.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Curley said in her report: &#8220;To the extent that additional investigation yields new evidence or leads, the investigators will pursue them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-relatedContent\" id=\"RegularArticle-RelatedContent-1\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-container\">\n<div class=\"RelatedContent-nonCollapsibleContent\">\n<h2 class=\"RelatedContent-header\">CNBC Politics<\/h2>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p>See more coverage of politics by CNBC:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><em><strong>This is breaking news.
