They are referring to the fatal shooting of a crewmember on the set of \u201cRust\u201d 2021<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin was charged with two counts alongside the film\u2019s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was also given two involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of the movie\u2019s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin is alleged to have shot Hutchins at Bonanza Creek Ranch while he was practicing a scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRust\u201d Joel Souza, the director, was also injured during filming. However no charges were filed against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to thank the Santa Fe Sheriff and the District Attorney for concluding their thorough investigation and determining that charges for involuntary manslaughter are warranted for the killing of Halyna Hutchins with conscious disregard for human life,\u201d As follows: A statement for the Hutchins Family by attorney Brian J. Panish. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/alec-baldwin-charged-involuntary-manslaughter-fatal-rust-shooting-district-attorney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported <\/a>Fox News. \u201cOur independent investigation also supports charges are warranted. It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law. We support the charges, will fully cooperate with this prosecution, and fervently hope the justice system works to protect the public and hold accountable those who break the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed are convicted of involuntary manslaughter \u2014 one type of which prosecutors say connotes negligence, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/arts-entertainment\/2023\/01\/19\/alec-baldwin-charged-rust-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">as The Washington Post reported<\/a> \u2014 they could face up to 18 months of jail time and a fine of $5,000. The second type of manslaughter offense \u201crequires proof that there was more than simple negligence involved in a death\u201d Adds a penalty to the offense \u201cfirearm enhancement,\u201d The mandatory minimum sentence is five years in prison. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors brought charges against the accused 15 months after the shooting that took place on Oct. 21, 2021. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/01\/19\/arts\/rust-shooting-charges-alec-baldwin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According <\/a>to The New York Times, the state was waiting for a final report from the local sheriff\u2019s office, which was completed last October. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the aftermath of the shooting, the authorities found five additional live rounds on the set, including on top of the cart where props were kept and in a belt that Mr. Baldwin was wearing as a costume piece,\u201d According to the Times, \u201cBut the investigation by the Santa Fe County Sheriff\u2019s Office did not answer a key question of the case: how live ammunition ended up on a movie set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November, Baldwin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/11\/arts\/alec-baldwin-rust-lawsuit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a> The film production team was sued for giving him a loaded gun.
