U.S. inflation was also decreasing and the Republican Party appeared to be in chaos after having taken days to elect a speaker of U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>But the latest\u00a0poll\u00a0numbers suggest those factors may not have significantly changed the public view of the president as he prepares for an expected re-election bid in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Biden, 80, is expected to launch another run for the White House, perhaps as soon as next month, after the State of the Union address on Feb. 7, sources have told\u00a0Reuters.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in Congress in recent days have slammed the president after the White House said this\u00a0month that\u00a0Biden&#8217;s\u00a0lawyers found classified documents at\u00a0his\u00a0home in Wilmington, Delaware at the start of November &#8211; ahead of the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans have said\u00a0Biden&#8217;s\u00a0team was not forthcoming about the discoveries, and called out the delay as significant when the administration was already probing former Republican President Donald Trump&#8217;s handling of highly sensitive classified documents that he retained at\u00a0his\u00a0Florida resort after leaving the White House in January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department has appointed special counsels, meant to be independent of political influence, to probe both Trump&#8217;s and\u00a0Biden&#8217;s\u00a0handling of documents.<\/p>\n<p>Legal experts note there are significant differences between the two cases, notably that the White House says it began turning over documents found in\u00a0Biden&#8217;s\u00a0home as soon as they were located, while Trump refused to do so until the FBI searched\u00a0his\u00a0property.<\/p>\n<p>Taking office in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0Biden&#8217;s\u00a0term has been marked by the economic scars of the global health crisis, including soaring inflation. Last year,\u00a0his\u00a0approval\u00a0rating drifted as low as 36% in May and June.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Reuters\/Ipsos\u00a0poll\u00a0also showed general dissatisfaction with Washington&#8217;s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Only 20% of respondents said that they approve of Kevin McCarthy, the top-ranking Republican official in the United States. Only 35% of respondents said that they have a favorable view of Congress, while 38% stated they had an optimistic view of the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Reuters\/Ipsos\u00a0poll, conducted throughout the United States, gathered responses from 1,035 adults, using a nationally representative sample.
