The department\u2019s excuses, meanwhile, are farcical.\n<\/p>\n<p><b><br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/columnists\/lewinsky-scandal-continues-to-poison-politics-25-years-later\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LEWINSKY SCANDAL CONTINUES TO POISON POLITICS 25 YEARS LATER<\/a><br \/>\n<\/b>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Biden\u2019s legal team \u2026 discussed with the Justice Department the prospect of having FBI agents present while Mr. Biden\u2019s lawyers conducted the additional searches,\u201d According to the <i>Wall Street Journal.<\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p>Bizarrely, the Justice Department declined, instead deciding that because Biden\u2019s team appeared to be cooperating, it would rely on that team to conduct the expanded search unsupervised. According to law enforcement officials, the <i>Wall Street<\/i> <i>Journal\u00a0<\/i>That \u201cone reason not to involve the FBI at an early stage: That way the Justice Department would preserve the ability to take a tougher line, including executing a future search warrant, if negotiations ever turned hostile.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>This is absurd. Top legal analyst and professor Jonathan Turley tweeted that this \u201cis a<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JonathanTurley\/status\/1615501217718996992?s=20\">level of accommodation that would make a Kardashian blush<\/a><br \/>\n.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor of high rank who is now an analyst <i>National Review<\/i> Fox News host, and he is well-known for his fairness in applying procedural norms to all parties of the political spectrum. He also agrees that the explanation is absurd.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is on its face preposterous that introducing the FBI at an early stage would preclude getting tougher \u2014 resorting to a search warrant, for example \u2014 down the road,\u201d He told me. \u201cNot only is that common sense; we know it from experience: The Justice Department sent FBI agents along with a DOJ official to Mar-a-Lago in early June 2022 to retrieve documents with classification markings. That in no way prevented the Justice Department from \u2018taking a tougher line\u2019 by executing a search warrant two months later.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it is good that Biden has his lawyers. <i>It seems<\/i> To be so<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/trumps-mar-a-lago-records-were-ethically-indefensible\">much more cooperative with federal authorities than former President Donald Trump was<\/a><br \/>\n. Trump\u2019s representatives repeatedly and dishonestly reported that all documents had been turned over, even as Trump reportedly directed numerous documents to be moved and hidden. Still, that\u2019s no excuse for just \u201ctrusting\u201d Biden\u2019s representatives to do the right thing. The Justice Department should take additional steps to ensure that documents of highly classified nature are properly handled. This has been the case for six years. As the search for the missing documents resumed, FBI agents and top officials from other departments with security clearance ought to have been present.\n<\/p>\n<p>The department should have felt twice compelled by national security and law to oversee the activities. <i>and,<\/i> Not least, the need for public confidence.\n<\/p>\n<p>Already,<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2023\/01\/the-trump-biden-comparisons-are-beside-the-point\/\">as McCarthy has noted at length<\/a><br \/>\nTrump&#8217;s security breaches and those of Hillary Clinton were handled by the Justice Department in highly divergent ways. Clinton was treated with kid gloves, while Trump is being prosecuted. The department must move to a new position. \u201ctrust now, and blithely <i>hope<\/i> we can verify later\u201d is yet another example of giving top Democrats a benefit of doubt that Republicans don\u2019t enjoy.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Clinton-Biden Trump imbroglios, however, are not isolated instances of extreme Justice Department bias and FBI bias favoring the political Left. Both in small and large ways, as well as internal FBI audits.<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/fbi-director-chris-wray-must-clean-up-his-agency\">itself reported<\/a><br \/>\nThe bureau is now a<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/columnists\/break-up-the-fbi\">cesspool<\/a><br \/>\n Of bias and<br \/>\n<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/quinhillyer.com\/fbi-and-justice-department-continue-abusive-behavior\/\">abuse<\/a><br \/>\n. Anytime it seems to treat liberals with more respect than conservatives, it leads to a growing distrust in the U.S. legal system as well as the whole structure of U.S. government law enforcement.\n<\/p>\n<p>Biden&#8217;s mishandling of government records such as those of Trump, Hillary Clinton and others is a serious violation of norms and, most likely, of national security.
