Baldy \u2014 which is covered in snow and ice due to recent winter storms.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2023\/01\/18\/actor-julian-sands-missing-hiker-california-mountain-baldy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from entertainment site TMZ, members of Sands\u2019 family reported the avid hiker missing last Friday at 7:30 p.m. \u2014 but it was not until Wednesday that authorities publicly declared that he was missing.<\/p>\n<p>Since Sands disappeared, search and rescue efforts were underway. However, in the days that followed, more storms dumped snow on Sands&#8217; mountain, and rescue efforts came to an abrupt halt after 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>A representative for the San Bernardino County Sheriff\u2019s Department <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/julian-sands-actor-reported-missing-hiking-baldy-bowl-1235494193\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told entertainment site Variety<\/a> that they have continued to search as best they can, using drones and helicopters \u2014 but that the additional snow and ice and poor visibility on the mountain have made ground searches impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Sands, who is known for his work on films like \u201cRoom With a View\u201d And \u201cArachnophobia,\u201d loves the mountains \u2014 he told <a href=\"https:\/\/community.thriveglobal.com\/a-free-spirit-on-lockdown-julian-sands-on-what-makes-him-thrive-keep-it-real-and-the-last-time-he-cried\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ThriveGlobal<\/a> In a 2020 interview \u201cI love climbing mountains, I\u2019ve spent a lot of time in the Alps over the years, a lot of time in the Andes, Alaska and the American ranges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Friends and colleagues have voiced their thoughts and prayers for the missing actor \u2014 along with their concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Cassian Elwes tweeted, \u201cI\u2019ve known since Friday that my friend Julian Sands has been missing on mt baldy. I\u2019m devastated. A very close family friend who was an adventurer in everything he did. Baldy are so treacherous that the San Bernardino Sheriff\u2019s Department issued a warning asking hikers to stay away and informing them of a number of rescue missions that had already been undertaken by the department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese rescue missions have been for lost, stranded and\/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past 4 weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves.
