They restored two posts that exposed their breasts after an oversight panel overturned them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oversightboard.com\/decision\/BUN-IH313ZHJ\/\">decision<\/a> made by the social media platform\u2019s owner, Meta, to remove the content.<\/p>\n<p>The only way to reverse the decision would be \u201ctrans and non-binary\u201d users to have free rein to post pictures of themselves topless without concerns from the tech giant censoring their content thanks to the board\u2019s reversal.<\/p>\n<p>Meta, which is the owner of both social media platforms and Meta board, appointed independent researchers who ordered social media platforms to remove a ban on topless photos for all users, except biological women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe same image of female-presenting nipples would be prohibited if posted by a cisgender woman but permitted if posted by an individual self-identifying as non-binary,\u201d the board\u2019s decision reads.<\/p>\n<p>The board recommended Meta modify its Adult Nudity and Sexual Activity Community Standard, so it is governed in accordance with international human rights standards.<\/p>\n<p>Images containing female nipples are prohibited under the current policy, except in certain circumstances like \u201cprotest, birth giving, after birth, and breastfeeding which it did not examine here, but also must be assessed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The policy text was based on the views of board members. \u201cbinary view of gender and a distinction between male and female bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch an approach makes it unclear how the rules apply to intersex, non-binary and transgender people and requires reviewers to make rapid and subjective assessments of sex and gender,\u201d It said.<\/p>\n<p>The board stated that Meta would be relying on \u201chuman reviewers\u201d To \u201cquickly assess[ing] both a user\u2019s sex, as this policy applies to \u2018female nipples,\u2019 and their gender identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Meta told The New York Post that the platform welcomes the board\u2019s decision in this case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had reinstated this content prior to the decision, recognizing that it should not have been taken down,\u201d The spokesperson stated. \u201cWe know more can be done to support the LGBTQ+ community, and that means working with experts and LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations on a range of issues and product improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A U.S.-based couple identifying as \u201ctransgender and non-binary\u201d won an appeal against Facebook and Instagram Tuesday, which restores two posts that exposed their bare breasts, after an oversight board overturned the decision made by the social media platform\u2019s owner, Meta, to remove the content.
