My bill today would abolish the ATF once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gaetz-introduces-abolish-atf-act-ruling-against-stabilizing-braces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Fox News<\/a> The \u201cfinal straw\u201d Last week, the Justice Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/justice-department-announces-new-rule-address-stabilizing-braces-accessories-used-convert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced a new rule<\/a> Steven Dettelbach (ATF Director) stated that the tightening of ATF regulations for stabilizing braces will essentially transform pistols into more dangerous, short-barreled guns. This is subject to ATF regulations. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/rules-and-regulations\/docs\/undefined\/factoringcriteriaforfirearmswithattachedstabilizingbracespdf\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more security checks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dettelbach and Attorney General Merrick Grland described the rule in an attempt to curb gun violence and improve public safety. Gun rights advocates, however, characterized the changes as part of a larger effort to protect gun violence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-lawmakers-nra-slam-atf-rule-regulate-pistol-braces-unconstitutional-overreach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unconstitutional overreach<\/a> This could have a negative impact on millions of people.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz raised particular concerns about the disabled veterans of his district who rely on stabilizing braces. He was dismissed. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atf.gov\/rules-and-regulations\/factoring-criteria-firearms-attached-stabilizing-braces?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATF\u2019s assurance that exemptions exist<\/a> For people with disabilities, it can lead to difficult tasks \u201ccase-by-case determinations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz, who is also a member on the House Judiciary Committee. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/video\/marjorie-taylor-greene-introduces-bill-183800945.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">co-sponsored a bill<\/a> Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R.GA) introduced the bill in 2021 that was designed to abolish the ATF. Originally, both chambers were controlled by Democrats. But now, the House is controlled by Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz stated that if his bill to abolish ATF fails to pass, there will be additional actions against the agency including a bid for defunding it.
