During this time, there were no meetings. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/why-container-ships-cant-sail-around-the-california-ports-bottleneck-11632216603\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">breathtaking backup of container ships<\/a>\u201d Americans faced a rising tide of population on the West Coast. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/why-you-cant-find-everything-you-want-at-grocery-stores-11629633601\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">empty shelves <\/a>At grocery stores <\/p>\n<p>Ninety percent take paternity leaves, but <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/19\/gay-media-trash-tucker-for-criticism-of-buttigieg-taking-two-months-off-in-middle-of-supply-chain-crisis-infrastructure-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">70 percent<\/a> Most take no more than two weeks. Buttigieg was absent for eight weeks and responded to critics with a CNN interview that fall. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I have been on maternity leave, and I\u2019m proud of it, obviously, given the nature of my job, when you take a job like mine, you understand and accept that you\u2019re going to have to be available 24\/7, depending on what\u2019s going on, and you\u2019re going to have to engage,\u201d Buttigieg <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/17\/buttigieg-defends-being-on-paternity-leave-amid-supply-chain-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, calendar records that were made public to PPT under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) show Buttigieg as a \u201cno-show\u201d During the supply-chain fiasco <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary Buttigieg claims that, even while on paternity leave, he was on call in an emergency. But when it came to the supply chain crisis, one of the most pressing and consequential emergencies plaguing Americans at the time, he was nowhere to be found,\u201d Michael Chamberlain, PPT Director, stated this in an a <a href=\"https:\/\/protectpublicstrust.org\/press-releases\/secretary-buttigieg-was-a-no-show-during-supply-chain-crisis-documents-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cWhile we were promised honesty and competence from the Biden Administration, this demonstration of deception and deceit is not only disheartening but further erodes the public\u2019s already all-time low trust in government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the group released records that were made public as follows: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/pete-buttigieg-chuck-grassley-leave-despite-claiming-24-7-availability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported <\/a>Washington Examiner reported that Buttigieg used paternity leave to avoid making public appearances or meeting with influential legislators on Capitol Hill. The nation was addressing supply chain issues while bipartisan infrastructure talks were ongoing for a trillion-dollar package that heavily relied on the Transportation Department. The agency was eventually awarded more than $500,000<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transit.dot.gov\/BIL#:~:text=The%20Bipartisan%20Infrastructure%20Law%20authorizes,%2491%20billion%20in%20guaranteed%20funding.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100 billion<\/a> Public transit. <\/p>\n<p>As negotiations continued in Washington, emails revealed by a FOIA request show Buttigieg\u2019s aides cited paternity leave to avoid a meeting with Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, to discuss a major Midwestern bridge project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the Secretary is currently on leave due to the birth of his twins, and that may lead to a delay in possibly scheduling in the future,\u201d An unnamed employee wrote the following.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Buttigieg\u2019s husband, Chasten, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/01\/17\/chasten-buttigieg-says-its-old-news-to-cover-petes-lengthy-paternity-leave-after-dot-concealed-it-for-a-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spouted off on Twitter about<\/a> reports of the secretary\u2019s absence, claiming critics were focused on old news. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been 17 months,\u201d Chasten <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chasten\/status\/1613919069354315778?s=20&#038;t=1pAjMP8Mdb62aZf0xDLXqw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> In response to an article by Fox News. \u201cYou need new material. Go yell at an M&#038;M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg\u2019s Transportation Department, however, blocked coverage of the agency chief\u2019s absence by stonewalling compliance with FOIA requests on the issue.
