Eric Swalwell \u2014 who once accused Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz of \u201cdefending Nazis\u201d \u2014 challenged Cruz with a bet on the upcoming playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers, Cruz fired back a stinging response.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the Cowboys take on the 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round. It is the ninth time that the teams have met in playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will make this open bet to @tedcruz \u2014 if the @dallascowboys beat the @49ers I won\u2019t tweet for the rest of January. Eric Swalwell (@RepSwalwell) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepSwalwell\/status\/1615217117087031296?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cruz had a ready response referencing Swalwell\u2019s infamous association with a Chinese spy, replying, \u201cHow about we bet a Chinese dinner instead?\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Let&#8217;s have a Chinese dinner! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7sSk1jwiGl\">https:\/\/t.co\/7sSk1jwiGl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1615457724589907971?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Swalwell made a snide dig at Cruz in October 2021. He claimed that Cruz was &#8220;a bad person&#8221;. \u201cdefending Nazis\u201d \u00a0after Cruz referenced a parent who gestured with a Nazi salute at a school board meeting in order to point out that the incidents in the NSBA letter that seemingly precipitated Attorney General Merrick Garland\u2019s memo targeting parents at school board meetings were largely non-violent incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz responded. \u201cYou are frequently a liar (when you\u2019re not sleeping with Chinese spies).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cBut here, you\u2019re [sic] lie is exactly 180 degrees false. I was defending the right of citizens to denounce authoritarian policies. In other words, to OPPOSE Nazis (or petty tyrants), not to support them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You are frequently a liar (when you\u2019re not sleeping with Chinese spies).<\/p>\n<p>But here, you\u2019re lie is exactly 180 degrees false. I was advocating citizens&#8217; rights to decry authoritarian policies. That is, to OPPOSE Nazis (or other petty dictators) and not support them. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EghsxDaWBo\">https:\/\/t.co\/EghsxDaWBo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tedcruz\/status\/1453453963727101952?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 27, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The exchange that prompted Swalwell\u2019s attempt at smearing Cruz involved Cruz questioning Garland.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz asked Garland, \u201cLet me ask you something, [Attorney] General Garland: In the letter, which you told the House of Representatives was the basis for this abusive memo targeting parents, how many incidents are cited in that memo?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to look back through the memo,\u201d Garland has the answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t know. How many of them were violent?\u201d Cruz asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, the general report\u2014\u201d Garland was born.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many of them were violent?\u201d Cruz persisted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d Garland admitted.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz asserted, \u201cYou don\u2019t know. And there\u2019s a reason you don\u2019t know. Because you didn\u2019t care and nobody in your office cared to find out. I did a quick count just sitting here during this hearing; I counted 20 incidents cited. Of the 20, 15 on their face are non-violent. They involve things like insults; they involve a Nazi salute. That\u2019s one of the examples. My God, a parent did a Nazi salute at a school board because he thought the policies were oppressive. General Garland, is doing a Nazi salute at an elected official, is that protected by the First Amendment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garland replied, \u201cYes, it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/cruz-ive-said-screw-the-chinese-communists-little-did-i-know-how-closely-swalwell-was-listening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not the first time<\/a>\u00a0Cruz has blistered Swalwell for his past actions vis-\u00e0-vis China; in December 2020, Cruz issued a tweet targeting Swalwell, who had denounced President Trump as an agent of Russia but then was revealed to have gotten so \u201cclose\u201d The FBI was forced to intervene in the case of a Communist Chinese spy. Cruz tweeted, \u201cMore than once, I\u2019ve said \u2018screw the Chinese communists.\u2019 Little did I know how closely Swalwell was listening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/alleged-chinese-spy-got-close-to-democrat-eric-swalwell-fbi-had-to-intervene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>A Chinese spy allegedly operating in the Bay Area under the Obama administration got so close to Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-CA that the FBI had the nerve to provide him with a briefing. Alleged Chinese spy Christine Fang\u2019s ties to Swalwell began when he was a councilmember for Dublin City, California, which is part of China\u2019s long-term strategy of getting in with people before they make it big on the national stage. Fang met Swalwell via a Chinese student group. He was already a well-known figure in China by 2014. \u201cdeveloped close ties to Swalwell\u2019s office\u201d It was also a \u201cbundler\u201d for him \u2014 meaning that she helped him bring in big donors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/china-spy-california-politicians-9d2dfb99-f839-4e00-8bd8-59dec0daf589.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a> reported that federal investigators were alarmed by Fang\u2019s behavior and activities and, in 2015, they shared their concerns with the congressmen in a defensive briefing.
