He believes the inflation will moderate or even flatten towards 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur expectation is that early in the year, inflation will continue to be higher than what it had been a couple of years ago, but as you get later in the year, we do expect some moderation there,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2023\/01\/11\/our-expectation-is-that-inflation-will-be-higher-early-in-the-year-says-kroger-ceo.html\">McMullen told CNBC on Jan. 11.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut it\u2019s still going to be a while before it takes some pressure off the customer, and we\u2019re doing everything we can to make sure that we minimize that impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0inflation fell to 6.5 percent\u00a0in December compared with a year earlier, it\u2019s still three times higher than the pre-pandemic average.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation rates have tripled, especially in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-food-prices\">food prices<\/a>This has caused a lot of financial hardship for many shoppers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur expectation is as you get later in the year, you start seeing quite a bit of moderation in inflation or flat inflation,\u201d McMullen addressed his audience at NRF2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still don\u2019t see much deflation now,\u201d Despite a slowdown in recent months, he maintained his position.<\/p>\n<h2>Many shoppers are concerned about egg prices<\/h2>\n<p>The price of eggs has risen in recent months due to a bird flu epidemic, high feed, fuel, labor and labor costs, and mysterious fires that destroyed millions upon millions of chickens.<\/p>\n<p>Eggs have almost doubled in cost since last year. They are now more expensive than $7 in some parts of California, for instance.<\/p>\n<p>McMullen claimed that a new set of chickens will soon come along and lay eggs. This will gradually ease the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou should start seeing some deflation in a few categories, but not a lot,\u201d During the New York City keynote, he spoke.<\/p>\n<h2>Kroger\u2019s Merger With Albertsons Will Hopefully Allow Prices at the Chain to Fall<\/h2>\n<p>McMullen told reporters over the past several days that Kroger\u2019s merger with Albertsons likely will help its efforts to cut down on expenditures and lower prices for its customers.<\/p>\n<p>Last October, the chain from Cincinnati bought rival Albertsons for $24.6 million.\u00a0The merger will have a significant impact on 710,000 workers and close to 5,000 stores in 48 US states and Washington, D.C.\u00a0Kroger would be able to compete with companies like Whole Foods and Target in the grocery industry.<\/p>\n<p>McMullen informed the New York conference attendees that the merger would result in Albertsons. \u201ccreate a tremendous amount of synergies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Fox Business, the company stated in October 2022 that they would reinvest $500 million in cost savings through synergies in order to lower prices for customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery store that we keep, we know we will begin lowering prices day one,\u201d McMullen stated this at the conference.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that Kroger had been able to lower prices by more $5 billion annually since 2006, a figure he said was unprecedented.<\/p>\n<h2>CEO says that coupons are helping customers stay afloat while store brands rise<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIf you do what\u2019s right for the customer, you do what\u2019s right for the associates, and you support your communities, the shareholders get the benefit of that,\u201d The CEO said so.<\/p>\n<p>McMullen indicated that online coupons have been used by McMullen to assist customers in the current inflation crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Kroger noticed that its store brands were starting to be recognized by customers. \u201cgaining meaningful share\u201d McMullen claims that this is the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we find is customers switched to our brands, initially to save money \u2026 When they switch, they stay with us, even when their budget gets a little less strained,\u201d He explained.<\/p>\n<p><i>This report was compiled by the Associated Press.<\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"author_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"one_author_block round\">\n<div class=\"top_row\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/author-bryan-jung\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/ttl7daySGw_WEB_BrianJung.jpg\" alt=\"Bryan Jung\"   style=\"display:none\"><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>Bryan S.
