Some of these items were brought to New York City and given to the American Museum of Natural History. Reeves pointed to a draft report that discussed how some bones and fossils were dropped into the river after the museum didn\u2019t accept them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Rogan was informed by Reeves about his identity. \u201cgoing to start a bone rush\u201d and read the report. Then, he announced East River Drive&#8217;s location, now known as FDR Drive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019ll see if anybody out there\u2019s got a sense of adventure,\u201d He said it later, noting: \u201cLet me tell you something about mammoth bones, mammoth tusks \u2014 they\u2019re extremely valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reeves stated to a member of The Associated Press he would look at the draft he had posted online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As the Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/jan\/15\/treasure-hunters-dive-mammoth-bones-new-york-east-river-joe-rogan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>Robert Sattler is one of the draft&#8217;s co-authors. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/oddities-allergies-joe-rogan-new-york-city-alaska-7658ee7e20ed3495a17b42727cee584c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the AP that another author \u2014 Richard Osborne \u2014 originated the story about the mammoth bones. Osborne however, passed away in 2005. Sattler said the draft report was authentic, but it wasn\u2019t supposed to be put in a scholarly journal. Rather, it was the beginning of something else, perhaps a book centered on Osborne\u2019s understanding.<\/p>\n<p>Sattler said he didn\u2019t have details past what Osborne recalled, but noted that Osborne was close to the recovery of mammoth bones in Alaska when he was younger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-67 p Component-p-0-2-58\">\u201cHe would have had some knowledge from somebody telling him that they dumped some excess material in the East River,\u201d Sattler said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The American Museum of Natural History tried to rebut the story, perhaps in an attempt to ward off potential treasure hunters. But they weren&#8217;t entirely successful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe do not have any record of the disposal of these fossils in the East River, nor have we been able to find any record of this report in the museum\u2019s archives or other scientific sources,\u201d In a statement, the museum stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI think the chances are just as good as the lottery. And people buy those tickets every day,\u201d CBS News quoted Don Gann as saying. Gann, a 35 year-old commercial diver from New Jersey has been diving in the waters since the beginning of last week along with three others.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gann also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2023\/jan\/15\/treasure-hunters-dive-mammoth-bones-new-york-east-river-joe-rogan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> He has also seen 24 other groups of people looking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI\u2019ve hunted for weird artifacts my entire life, so this one, it just kind of fits into my repertoire,\u201d Gann, who was also in Discovery\u2019s \u201cSewer Divers,\u201d said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gann hasn\u2019t discovered anything, but he has moved locations to a different area of the city, claiming that it would have been a more realistic dumping spot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIf I find nothing, then I find nothing.
