He was 52.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts are broken,\u201d Dina posted <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/imlancegeorge\/status\/1614762369670053888\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on her Facebook page<\/a>. \u201cMy brother Gino Odjick has left us for the spirit world,\u201d Attached two heart emojis at the end of her message are<\/p>\n<p>Odjick had been going to a Vancouver hospital to have his leg bandages changed when he suffered a heart attack. <a href=\"https:\/\/montrealgazette.com\/sports\/hockey\/nhl\/vancouver-canucks\/gino-odjick-dead-at-52\/wcm\/318e31ed-9ec7-4135-9c12-3c934b56940e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Montreal Gazette reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>He was diagnosed in 2014 with amyloidosis. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/nhl\/article\/gino-odjick-a-beloved-canucks-enforcer-dies-at-52\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to Sportsnet<\/a>It \u201cattacked his organs and his heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Islanders, Canucks and Canadiens \u2014 three teams that Odjick played with over his 12-year NHL career \u2014 released statements Sunday night after his death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe New York Islanders are deeply saddened to learn the passing of former family member, Gino Odjick,\u201d According to the team, a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYIslanders\/status\/1614789438051172352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cThe team extends our condolences to the Odjick family and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-slideshow\" data-component=\"inlineSlideshow\">\n<div class=\"inline-slideshow__header\">\n\t\t<button type=\"button\" class=\"button inline-slideshow__nav inline-slideshow__nav--prev inline-slideshow__nav--disabled\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t<?php \/**\n * Carousel right alt - Odjick spent parts of his next three seasons in New York. In 1997-98, Odjick played 13 games and 1998-99, respectively. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2000\/01\/17\/isles-welcome-odjick-back\/\">46 in 1999-2000<\/a> Before the team <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2000\/05\/18\/its-blood-or-nothin\/\">dealt him to the Flyers<\/a>. Odjick had 22 points and 254 penalties minutes in total 82 games played with the Islanders.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sportsnet, Odjick holds the Canucks\u2019 record for most penalty minutes in franchise history with 2,127. In 1996-97, Odjick led the NHL in penalty minutes with 371.
