Secretary Buttigieg went on eight-weeks of parental leave. While 9 out of 10 dads are expected to take leave, the overwhelming majority (95%) of them do not.<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/19\/gay-media-trash-tucker-for-criticism-of-buttigieg-taking-two-months-off-in-middle-of-supply-chain-crisis-infrastructure-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">70 percent<\/a>) take 10 days or less. <\/p>\n<p>Internal records made public through a Freedom of Information Act request and first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/pete-buttigieg-chuck-grassley-leave-despite-claiming-24-7-availability\">reported<\/a> Last week, the Washington Examiner revealed that Buttigieg excused his executive duties in order to care for his newborn twins. The secretary refused to appear in public and declined a request to meet with a Senate Republican top-ranking. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/buttigieg-avoided-calls-public-appearances-paternity-leave-foia-documents-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, the Secretary is currently on leave due to the birth of his twins, and that may lead to a delay in possibly scheduling in the future,\u201d Unnamed staffers at the Transportation Department wrote to decline a meeting with Senator Chuck Grassley. Hawkeye State legislator wanted to talk about a $1 billion bridge project in the Midwest. <\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg also turned down requests to appear in Illinois or Indiana. <\/p>\n<p>Chasten admonished critics of his husband\u2019s absence last week with the same condescending snark that\u2019s almost become expected of modern-day leftists. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been 17 months,\u201d Chasten <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chasten\/status\/1613919069354315778?s=20&#038;t=1pAjMP8Mdb62aZf0xDLXqw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote <\/a>Follow us on Twitter Friday \u201cYou need new material. Go yell at an M&#038;M.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chasten\/status\/1613919069354315778?s=20&#038;t=1pAjMP8Mdb62aZf0xDLXqw\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>His comment was followed by his remark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/mars-offer-all-female-mms-limited-time-honor-successful-women-all-over-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news <\/a>Mars Candy Company would sell M&#038;M packages featuring all female characters during this month to make a feminist statement. <\/p>\n<p>Chasten\u2019s husband at the helm of the Transportation Department, however, stonewalled requests for the documents on his reported absence. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Chamberlain, the director of Protect the Public\u2019s Trust, which filed the request for records under the Freedom of Information Act, told The Federalist the documents were only released after the group filed a lawsuit. It requested the records in December but was forced to sue in June. <\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JusticeTristan\/status\/1614045160559763457?s=20&#038;t=ToLKhvdpFRI_XZDn-ztrng\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">still stonewalling <\/a>records requests on Secretary Buttigieg\u2019s absence that The Federalist filed the same month Chamberlain\u2019s group submitted theirs. The request was acknowledged by the agency on December 3, 2021. However, the agency has not yet been compliant with the public transparency law despite numerous follow-ups via phone and email.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JusticeTristan\/status\/1614045160559763457?s=20&#038;t=ToLKhvdpFRI_XZDn-ztrng\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg\u2019s Transportation Department was awarded more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transit.dot.gov\/BIL#:~:text=The%20Bipartisan%20Infrastructure%20Law%20authorizes,%2491%20billion%20in%20guaranteed%20funding.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$100 billion<\/a> For public transit, the president signed the infrastructure package in 2021. <\/p>\n<p> Tristan Justice is The Federalist&#8217;s western correspondent.
