He was 71 years old.<\/p>\n<p>James Dellinger was sentenced in 1996 to death for first-degree murder. Later that evening Dellinger, Sutton and Griffin bailed Griffin out from jail.<\/p>\n<p>Griffin\u2019s body was discovered three days later near the Little River in Townsend on February 21, 1992, where gunshots were reportedly heard shortly after Dellinger and Sutton bailed him out of jail.<\/p>\n<p>Muderpedia.org reports that Griffin had been shot with a shotgun at close range and was left next to the river.<\/p>\n<p>Dellinger and Sutton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashvillescene.com\/news\/citylimits\/as-executions-return-families-fight-for-men-on-death-row\/article_b32114a4-838d-11ec-9e00-abf264b51e1e.html\">reportedly<\/a> killed Griffin\u2019s sister, Connie Branam, the next day after she had searched for her brother.<\/p>\n<p>Branam\u2019s body was discovered in her burned vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Both Dellinger and Sutton were convicted of Branam\u2019s murder in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities originally scheduled Sutton\u2019s execution date on October 6.
